I wish stereo volume went beyond 40

I find myself listening to the stereo at full blast and wishing it had more juice all the time. I wonder if I added an amp but left everything else stock would help.

I have owned my TL for exactly one week now and feel the same way..........although it does seem to depend upon which CD I'm playing or what station I'm listening to. Also have to agree with some of the other posts ........the Bose speakers are good......................but not great in my opinion.

get used to it. they don't realize that you have so much fun inside the TL. i'm like that too behind the wheel. i'd probably be the only driver stuck in traffic but still enjoying it

i crank it up to 30. anything higher doesn't sound the way i want it to sound. xm comes in even lower. the cd seems to play the loudest out of all, then again i haven't used the tape player yet. my civic had 2 12's sub, an amp for that and an amp for the mids/highs so wow big difference. i mean it's waaaaaaaaay more cleaner in the TL but my civic is waaay louder. i may have to either take one of the amps from my bro (he has my civic now) or get one of the 12's and get another amp, haven't decided yet. usually my volume doesn't go higher than 23 but man when one your song comes on, you'd just wanna crank that up. also what helps too is closing all your windows. you can't here anything outside so the music will come in a little better

I, too, have wanted it to go beyond the 40 on occasion, but I rarely ever crank it much beyond 15, or even 20. Damn, I must be getting old! :toothless
The car is so quiet and the sound so good ....

The first time I got on mine it stopped at forty and I could not understand. I thought the system froze and I kept hitting the up button. The system sounds nice just nowhere near the punch I expected it would have. I have been pretty disappointed from the lack of power.

What did you expect?

The first time I cranked it up to 20 I thought it was plenty loud. If 40 is not loud enough for some of you, maybe you should have your hearing checked. Sound's like you guy's regurlarly subject your ears to loud music.

Or maybe you guy's want the ELS to be louder so that everyone around you can hear it. Remember, the ELS is designed with fidelity in mind and not so much how many db's it can crank out.

Yo - 40? at 20 I thought my ears were bleeding. You doing this with your windows down driving down the highway? - cause that is when I had to get mine up higher (to 20) but 40? c'mon, either you are listening to some CD you burned yourself at some low recording level (I don't even know if that is possible like it was back in the days of cassettes) or maybe an old CD, or poorly recorded one - I had an Enya CD in there and was disappointed how low it was, then I put in some 50cent and I thought my sub was going to fly out the window or drop into the trunk at that same volume.

Since I obviously have sensitive ears withstanding only 20 - how does it sound at 40?

40?

The HFL does have to be turned up to about 24 sometimes on the highway even though all the windows are closed... is that normal? But when i am cruising on regular streets, i just need it around 16 or a little lower. While the CD is usually around 10 - 16 and tape, DVD-A around there too. I play XM at different volumes depending on how clear it is. When i turn on the comedy show on XM, i have to get it higher, close to 20.

When I used to compete in sound competitions we had a saying “If it is too loud you are too old”. With that said I will be adding a couple of 8s or a tube to the system. The system is very clear but it lacks punch (low frequency bass).

Depends what you're listening to. For radio, 20 is plenty loud (FM even moreso than XM). Most rock/r&b CDs are loud above 10. But if you're listening to jazz or classical, especially in DVD-A format, then you may need to crank it all the way up, especially during some of the quieter parts. I've also experienced the phenomenon of wanting it to go louder than 40 on some of these recordings - but then it hits the "loud" part and I quickly crank it down again.

I agree that the bass is lacking, this is why I added an Infinity basslink. With the sub now installed I notice I rarely get above 10. Maybe I am too old, I'm 28.

Then something is seriously wrong with my system if I can stand my system at 40. At least I'm still under fourty (not by much at 39).

Oh man, you are old :lol2: j/k

Maybe you should go to the dealer and compare your radio with one of the cars on the lot. You never know, there may be something wrong.

I've had it up to 40 when I'm going down I45 between Houston and Dallas. I have all the windows rolled down and the sunroof open at the time. I can't remember if I was listening to XM or a CD. With the windows rolled up, I never go beyond about 20-24.
