I heard a POP!

When I went to pass a car tonight I floored the accelerator and the engine made a popping sound. Like it back fired. Has this happen to anyone? What caused it?

Same thing happened to me a while back, right after I installed my AEM V2. I was making a left turn into traffic and floored it to get up to speed. When I let up on the pedal, POP! Scared the hell out of me. I think it was normal and it has not happened again since.
Like someone mentioned, probably a weird fuel/air ratio thing and just caused a slight backfire.

^^Interesting. My incident occurred prior to my Seafoam and has not happened since under similar circumstances.

I remember a bunch of these threads a year or so ago.

It's a combo of a CAI, and WOT shift into second gear. Many TLs do this and it was thought to be the DBW slamming the throttle shut for a milisecond on the shift.

I had my resonator removed and heard this a couple times in my car, always on the second shift. It sounds like a lean pop back through the intake.

stupid computer controlled throttles!

15k miles is about the right time to start on induction cleaning program
thats seafoam, or your choice of brands, but do something
It really does make a differance

That crud buildup shown in tv commercials is real, and its on the piston tops too, causing a rise in compression the computor is not expecting

remember to clean the TB throttle plate inside the opening of the TB
The edges get gunked from PCV deposits on it and wont seal properly and may be slow to respond to inputs
Carb cleaner or TB spray cleaner is fine
We dont have the wire or plastics inside to worry about so carb cleaner is ok

Deep Creep- Seafoam aerosol, or make a spray bottle of seafoam- it will clean the plate and lube its hidden pivot pin that makes the throttle operate!

remove rubber snout from air filter top to the TB to get to the TB plate-
dont have to remove the TB, just the large hose to it-
big hose clamps on the ends- make sure those are same tightness when you put them back on

You should be getting a commission from Seafoam for a much as you hawk it on the Acurazine.
