Having owned a black car in the past and not knowing much about washing/waxing, I know I caused my own.

How do you wash/wax it? Are you drying it with some sort of regular house towel?

With a Black TL, it is likely that the scratching is from handwashing the vehicle. Dirt gets trapped in the sponge/mitt and you scratch when you think you cleaning. My best recommendation is one of two things. Cheap and easy fix is to wax car using black wax to diminish to the scratches. it's available at all parts stores. Best thing to do to prevent it is to get what is called a diamond finish on the car. It seals the paint and protects it from light scratching. Don't ever power buff a black car unless you are an expert!

Avoid those drive in car washes at all costs, and never let them dry your car.

black is a hot color but very easy to notice scratches on a black car...you must be very careful with a black car....wax/polish is a must for a black car

It is almost impossible to not lightly scratch clear coat (particularly todays clear coats) if you wash/dry the car. I am a firm believer in Zaino which can cover swirl marks well, I am also a firm believer in not buying black cars due to the upkeep.

I feel really bad for black car owners who discover this nonsense after buying their black cars. There are so many people out there with black cars who deal with this shit over and over again. Black is a friggin nightmare. The only thing you can do is spend hours and hours zaino'ing the car to get rid of that stuff, and then you can never take your car to a car wash. What a drag.

My white and silver cars are so low maintenance, I don't think I'll ever get anytyhing else ever again. I swear its not worth it.

Why does Black reveal scratches over other colors like Silver? I bought an old civic and it has swirls all over like a tattoo..

Not always true. There are a couple good ones:

One called "firehouse" or something like that that only uses water jets....no cloth

Another in Amoco stations which uses "lambswool" which is extremely soft..This one's a little more risky b/c a stone can always get caught in the brush.

I agree never let them dry your car!!!

I have Nighthawk Black Pearl and own an Auto Body Repair Shop. Black is the most noticeable color for scratches and road chips. Especially once the wax gets in the chips and inside the scratch lines. We use a high speed buffer with a foam pad and a polish made by 3M to remove light surface scrathes and swirl marks. Its the only way, luckily I havent had to polish my car, cross my fingers no scratches road chips yet

If you have NBP you need to follow this procedure to minimize the swirls and scratches.

1. Dust car daily.
2. Wash weekly.
3. Wax at least 2 times a year. I do 4 times
4. While washing only up and down motions on sides and back and forth on top, hood and trunk. Only wash with quality cotton towels. Rinse towel everytime before you put it back on the car.
5. When sent to dealer ask them to write "DO NOT WSH or TOCUH THE PAINT" on the work order. I do that. Also walk around the car with the tech service rep to note any scrathces. I learnt a hard lesson last week about this when a local dealer scratched my car at 2 spots.
6. When getting delivery walk around again with tech person to note any new scratches.
7. Never take to auto washes. Only touchless jet spray types.

Nothing I mean NOTHING looks sharp like a black clean car.
