I drive without VSA all the time
So, when I get in my car to drive, I start it and proceed to turn off the VSA everytime. I just turn it on for highway or higher-speed driving. Is there a way to disable it when you start the car and turn it on when you want it.

If you want to, you can put the car into a spin tho, pretty fun.
Before you go turning it off, it is good to understand what VSA does for you and how it does it. The VSA (vehicle stability assist) is a two part safety system. The first system is traction control, which works at speeds below 18 mph. in marginal traction condition such as snow, ice, or sand, the VSA will pull torque away from only the wheel that has lost traction and transfer it to the other wheel. It also uses the ABS to stop any wheel from spinning. if both wheels have poor traction, it will "bounce" the torque between the wheels to get you going. It is kind of the reverse of ABS.
At higher speeds, the the VSA acta as a "yaw" control. It corrects oversteer and understeer (skidding). It is designed to keep you on your intended turn path whether due to loss of traction from conditions or emergency maneuvering. In an understeer, the Vsa will cut torque and apply ABS to the interior front wheel of the turn ie - left turn understeer, then left front tire. In oversteer, it cuts torque and applies ABS on interior rear wheel only. It only comes on when this condition is detected. Again, if you are doing aggressive cornering, the VSA doesn't cut torque from both drive wheels, only the one that has lost traction as it applies the ABS to one wheel only.
BTW -- the new 2005 RL with SH-AWD will combine the ABS, VSA and SH-AWD so that when cornering, the torque is transferred to the outside wheels of the turn. VSA works on interior wheels of turns, so this big demon should a screamer and as sticky asmy toddler's face after an ice cream cone!
