Question I don't get some of the TL owners.

Disclaimer: If this applies to you, it is an insult.

I've noticed many postings of pictures where there is a brand new TL, but the home in the background looks like a complete dump. WTF?

Remember your car is a depreciating asset. All that money going to mods and crap should got to move yourself out of the hood or your mom's basement.

But I love my momma so........I dig the basement! We can sit around and smoke pot, cuss, and watch TV and mom makes us Banquet frozen dinners to cure our munchies...

No....seriously...I do own my own home....good advise though! Got a good laugh out of it! I have seen the same thing....but....I have also seen places I considered inner city dumps that fact is...the folks in that area geographically seem to think they are very nice homes - and the cost comparison is WAY more than what we are accustomed to in Indy.(inflated home costs in their market due to dense populations) - so sometimes its hard to make that comparison.....one persons dump...is anothers castle they may have saved for YEARS to get and cost friggin $395,000 or something...and to look at em....they compare to what sells in our areas as SLUM for under $50,000. I know what you are saying though....and it IS good advise. BUT...you cant always make inferences from the look of someones home - especially if you are not familiar with the market it lies within. My friend tells me she paid like $395,000 for her place in Philly....and it looks like what sells for $40,000 in our market....so again...not always a good comparison.

^^^ Hilarious! hhahhahaha. Sometimes it takes a complete dump to create the contrast needed to focus in on the car and not the surrounding backgrounds. Now let's see some beat down cars in front of mansion$$$!!!
I love this DUMP by the way.

How about you just enjoy the pictures? What you think are crappy homes might be nice homes for others. I know plenty of Asian families that take care of their elderly parents. That is a big part of Asian culture, but you wouldn't know anything about that would you? Everyone knows that a new car loses it's value the moment it leaves the lot. But so what? I ain't investing into my car like it's stock. I know my Acura will last me quite a while compared to domestic crap. Maybe you should stick to car discussions instead of criticising people's personal life. We don't need your lectures around here.

Do you have listings??

I have 4 Desi's living next to me that rent, it's a 3 bedroom house. And the basement is renting out by a fifth. They have a '06 3 series, 04 or 05 300Z, 94 Civic, 91 Civic and a Integra.

Then about 5 houses down there is 2 couples renting a house, 2 yr old S2000, 2-3 yr old Chevy Blazer, 05 or 06 Scion TC and a 6-8 yr old 3 series.

It amazes me that the money they're spending in rent and cars could by them a home. But not in this area. My house is worth 3 times more what we paid for it.

So taking care of elderly asian parents and owning a 30k+ car while living in your mom's trailer go hand in hand?

Anyways, it's all relative like stated above. Average single family home prices in my area is 650-700k+ Just a bit out of reach for most. Trust me these aren't new houses with state of the art amenities either. 650-700k in other markets will get you a mansion.

With that said, you see a lot of nicer cars parked at apartments and condos in this area.

So why does it have to be a trailer?

12 posts in five years and this is the best topic you could come up with to start...?

did you go around to all the other car forums and start the same topic? because i've seen some homes that i wouldn't live in, but they've got a nice car sitting outside of them...though none of which have been a TL...so really your topic should say 'i don't get some people with questionable homes and a nice car'...but then you wouldn't be referring to just the TL owners, thus making your topic irrelevant for this site...

like MB, i also have a friend in Philly and he's been looking for a home up there, but the cost of living is so high, that even the most run-down place is more than he can afford...so he'll probably be moving back to Tulsa, where i live, and buy something at 1/5 the price that's newer and bigger than anything he could find in Philadelphia...

wasn't trying to bash on you (mander11) too hard...i understand what you're saying because i've seen the same thing and never really understood their reasoning for living in an older home, but spend so much money on a nice car...but then again you nor i probably know these people and have no understanding of where these people are coming from...plus they're probably proud of what they have even if we think it's a shithole...

My advice would be to stay on topic with the thread.

I didn't understand your comparison to owning a TL and taking care of elderly asian parents and the OP's apparent ignorance on asian culture......

I'll change it to mobile home if it makes you feel better.

So to the thread starter:

Houses can get very expensive depending on the market and the amount spent on a car is minimal.

I was throwing out a legitmate reason as to why some people live at home. Obviously the OP does not undertand that different people live differnet lives. Is that offtopic?

Changing it to mobile home eh? How nice of you.

the houses in the background of my pics are shitty because it's student ghetto and there are no nice places to rent. My actual home is very nice, it's in the best part of my hometown and is very upscale. so while there may be so less appealing appearing homes in the pics there can be many different reasons. Also you have no idea what the interior could look like, it could be gorgeous inside.

Here in SF, it'd be a miracle if I could afford to rent, let alone purchase, a nice house. I live in a questionable area, or on the boundaries of it, but on my street there are a bunch of BMWs and Benz, cleanest 5 series I've ever seen, AN RL, toyota supra turbo, my TL of course, and many other upscale cars in front of houses that would seem to be questionable. Hell I even see STI's and an NSX in my area in front of "questionable" homes. My house may not look nice, but it is by no means a cheap house.

The quote is old and has been abused, but it fits in to this. "Looks can be deceiving."

What? Oh hell no!!

Man, this is so irrelevant! Why start a thread about some bullshit like this? Who cares where people live??? This is a CAR forum! Move that shit to the rambling because that is what it is! Some people may take a pic in front of a dump because they want the contrast and the emphasis on their car. Some people may be over a friend's house. Who gives a fuck where and why?

You know what? Why guess? Go find a crappy background shot and ask the person why they took that pic in front of it? Stupid irrelevant stuff like this is insulting for no reason other than your ass was bored when you typed it! When you find the crappy house person, since you obviously care, let them move in with you in your basement and take a pic with a nice house in the background, because your place better be nice as hell coming out the mouth like that!

Value systems and commodities are both relevant to the consumer or person who has them or purchases them. Not to others. What is a priority to you may not be to another person. It may have been someone's dream to get this car. Something that is more easily obtainable than a house (especially if credit is an issue). Or it may have been a gift from a parent. Anything. Too many variables at any rate for you to judge another person on your value system. Besides, I personally know a couple of people who live like hermits in hovels, but have plenty of money! In fact, one of those persons works with me! True story! Now, would I do that? Hell to the naw! But that is MY value system. See what I mean? I bet both of those people I am talking about have more money than you and I put together! And that's without peeping your financial portfolio. But I will never know if that's true right? Because that just what I think without knowing what's up with you! Get the point?

Chill out and just enjoy the rides on display! Leave the wondering how that thing is going to get paid for to the owner.

Peace2Fingaz!

What if your TL is your house? Should I be insulted by this thread? I sleep in the back seat and change in the trunk. I make all my payments with a credit card and when I max out a credit card I apply for a new one so I can continue making payment. Is that bad?

Like someone said, its all relative. $395,000 could probably be enough to pay rent for your cardboard box in Silicon Valley, but somewhere else, it may get you a mansion with two swimming pools in the back. But whether its California or Florida, $35,000 will usually be enough to get you a new TL.

I have a new TL-S and a new 328i.... My rent in Seal Beach, CA is $2300/month which would be a VERY nice mortgage in most places...

It's worth the money to me to rent and be in a NICE neighborhood, than buy a home in a shit hole area of Los Angeles...
