I am picking up my baby tomorrow!!

FINALLY, I am going to the dealership tomorrow to pick up my 6MT NBP/Ebony 2006 TL w/ NAV!!

I am still thinking about the WDP though, but too bad they only come in Automatics.

Dunno about you guys, but picking the right color is like the hardest thing for me.

Funny thing is... I just now learned how to drive an MT. Took me 4 good hours and I was out cruising the busy streets of Dallas. I am proud of myself :-D. Hopefully I dont screw up driving my baby home tomorrow.

I know of all the hard maintenance involved to care for a NBP. Given the fact that the car will not be Garaged at all will make it a very hard task. I have decided that I can live w/ a little dirt on it =).

WDP only comes in automatic??

Well either way-the WDP is a b!tch to keep clean, and the TL's are notorious for having mis-matching panels (especially the back bumper) on the WDP's

Congrats on your new ride either way!

After all those numerous threads on good quotes, you've finally made the plunge!

As for me, I wouldn't want to pick up the 6MT TL from just 4 hours of practice. I would practice on a beater for a while and master it. Good luck with it!

WDP comes in 6MT, but its hard to find in certain areas. Mine was the only 5AT WDP with nav in the lot when I purchased the car. Depends on location.

Welcome to the club! Congrats!

Congrats on the new ride! I have a NBP/ebony 6MT I bought almost a year ago now. The first thing I did was put on a clear bra to protect the nose from chips. It's a very wise investment!

What grade gas do you guys put in your TL? The dealership told me I can put medium grade and it would run fine.

Also, can any of yall point me to any threads on how to operate a manual well? I am a complete noob, but I am good enough to get around town. However, I want to develop great manual driving skills. Thanks.

Personally I use premium. There's plenty of threads discussing this. As far as driving a manual, I'd first try to drive smoothly. THe starts are the hardest, don't try to get fancy to soon. When downshifting match the revs before letting the clutch out.

Maybe once every two weeks in the winter. I have hot water outside that I use. I can't stand the salt on the car. It looks so bad on the Black car. Oh well.

southernboy, this is exactly what i was looking for. Thank you. The power of the 6sp is awesome!! I am coming from a beatdown 93 celica with like only 120hp? So now when I think I'm only @ 20mph, I look at the speedometer and it reads 40mph and I'm like WTF?? Why so? because this thing is so quiet!! I love this ride!!.... now if only I can improve on my manual driving skillz

Don't worry, you will improve. Just don't develop any bad habits early that may be difficult to break later on down the road.

Operating a manual transmission correctly is largely common sense based upon an understanding of how the clutch assembly and the transmission work. You don't need to be a master mechanic for this.. just some good, sound knowledge is really all you need. For example, if you know how a clutch assembly works, you would never hold the car on a hill or "play" the clutch at a light on a grade because you know that pressure and friction product heat... a LOT of heat. Which can seriously degrade and shorten the life of the components.

If you know the basics of how a manual transmission operates and the interaction between the gears and the synchronizers, you would understand the concept of rev-match the drive and driven gears to both match gear speeds AND reduce wear on the synchros.

Don't expect to learn it all on one day. Perfect a technique and move on to the next one. I would recommend saving downshifting for last since it involves having mastered other, more basic techniques first. Take it easy, be patient, and concentrate on technique to commit things to muscle memory.

You'll do fine, I'm sure, because you want to do fine. Enjoy!

I've got a NBP ungaraged, and while it's a bitch to keep clean, it's absolutely gorgeous when it is. Congrats.

After driving this baby around this weekend, I am in love!! Only thing is I get so nervous when I'm at a stop light waiting to put it into first gear with 10 cars behind me. Performance Anxiety. Hopefully this feeling will go away.
