HPT Rotating

Pardon my ignorance but I have the High Performance Tires. Are these directional tires? I need to know if I rotate F->R or criss-cross. Thanks.

if the tire has uni-tread(goes in one direction) then it cannot be rotated between left and right. a uni-tread tire has a distinct right and left tire and cannot be swapped. so you would just rotate front to rear.

I've HPTs too. They are directional. Change from back to front and front to back. No interchange.

My dealer changed my EL42s only between the front and the back. Is this the new trend to do so? Or they're just stupid???

no, your dealer is probably not as stupid as they look. not sure what the EL42's are but if they are uni-directional, that means they only rotate one direction (yes, i'm a rocket scientist). therefore you can only swap front to back and vice versa. you can tell by looking at the arrow direction on the sidewall of your tires.

Also, if the dealer criss-cross then does'nt matter. You'll have to drive in reverse.

IMHO The HPT's are not directional. I rotated mine at 5K with the cross rotation. (as explaned in the manual) They are fine at 6500 miles. (No noise, good ride) The most important thing is to rotate them often. At least every 5K miles.

Thanks. I thought Rocket Scientist should stay nearby Disney or Houston...

Unfortunately, we know EL42s are not uni-directional... :o

Take a look a the sidewall. If you see a little arrow-type figure with the word "direction" on it you can be sure that the tires are directional.
