Engine or Cabin?
Engine: every 10000 miles or yearly
Cabin: ~20000 miles

I'd say do both engine and cabin filter once a year.

None of the above is correct according to your owner's manual, pg 199:

Change both filters when the MID tells you to, i.e. when you get a maintenance message with a "2" in it. If you drive in dusty conditions, then it's 15000 miles.

I hear ya. I use to not follow the MID for my oil changes and do them every at the 50% marks since work paid for my maintenance.

Currently I do the oil changes right when it lights up and says "service due soon." With air and cabin though I still do it once a year as we drive to Vegas every couple of months to see my sister and future mother in-law who both live there. When I swapped out the air filter and cabin this Sunday (both changed in July last year) they were filthy!

I also swapped out my trans fluid and coolant at ~60k. I'll do the trans again at 90k and the coolant when the tb/wp plugs are due at ~105k.

The MID is definitely not a bad thing to follow. For me, I would stick to my own schedule sans the oil since I use synthetic.

Do these two tasks when YOU want to do them, not when the MID or anyone else tells you.. unless you are of a mind to follow the MID or someone else's advice. I do both of mine once a year because I like to keep them clean. The cabin filter tends to show slightly more debris than does my engine filter and I may be due to the fact that I use a dry element filter for my engine (the OEM factory filter is a dry/wet combo filter).

Once a year is really not a schedule to follow as annual mileage will vary with drivers. We go from 35,000 miles a year on our 2008 knock around car to 5,000 on the TL, so the once a year rule of thumb would not suffice. Cabin filter gets dirty very quickly and a 12/15000 mile change (severe service) is not uncommon, but the engine air filter can be inspected before changing, but a 25,000 range, unless driven in dusty conditions, would be often enough.

The 2008 jitney calls for a cabin filter replacement every 7,000 miles, a little overkill for me, but after I did the first change at 22,000 miles I changed my attitude, as it was filthy. Found Wix filters from a Cadillac STS that would fit for $7 each (purchased 5), now it's chganged every 10,000 miles. It also calls for an engine filter change at 30,000 which I found to be fine.

A privately-owned, small or medium-sized vehicle usually operated on a fixed route, but not on a fixed schedule

A small bus or minibus which typically operates a service route; an unlicensed taxi cab; a share taxi; a small coin, a nickel

In my case it's slang for a 2008 Kia Optima.

Also, the OP asked how often He should change the air filters, not a schedule that works for you, as I certainly hope that you continue to drive the same mileage each year to keep the filters current, and doing them when one wants is ridiculous.

I change my cabin filter the moment I smell anything odd, usually 6 months - a year... It's my health... I purchase ATP HA5 Charcoal Cabin Air Filter from rockauto.com $15

I see what you did there...
I was unaware of your other vehicle. I thought you meant jeepney for a second.

You're absolutely right he did ask how often he should change the filter? If I were him I would do it once per year. That works for me and that is my advice for him. Maybe I should have mentioned once a year or on an as needed basis by the MID or your own good judgement of them being dirty. Two $20 filters once per year is not going to break the bank especially considering they are always filthy when I remove them. I drive about 12-15k annually.
