How much for an A1 scheduled service?

My 04 TL is approaching 6k miles and the maintenance system tells me I'm due for an A1 service. One of my local dealers is quoting $129, which seems a bit much for an oil change, tire rotation and brake check. Any thoughts on what's a reasonable price to pay?

I'm in the SF Bay Area (Sunnyvale).

Thanks /ferg

Frankly, you should just pay for the oil change (there are many bay area dealers offering $20-35 changes) and do the rotation yourself if you have access to a jack. Otherwise they're always going to gouge you on that!

$129-ridiculous. Figure $20-25 for oil change, $10-15 for tire rotation, tops $40. What a bunch of crooks. And lore is right again, do what you can and save the money.

I hate how expensive the Bay Area is. They must get a lot of people willing to pay it, otherwise they wouldn't quote it. Should be in the $30 - $40 range.

$10-$15 for a rotation? Really? Isn't this a pretty lengthy process requiring balancing, etc? I would think it would take about an hour to remove and rotate all four tires - $10-15 for that seems low, although $90-100 seems high. Just my ignorance though - how long should a rotation really take?

About ten minutes. Car is on a lift, all the right tools are there, and the mechanic has probably done it a thousand times. Tires generally get knocked out while the oil is draining...

Rotating the tires and balancing the tires are two different things. Neither should cost more than 20-30 bucks.

is 129 what dealers charge normally??? its a little much but i hate looking for a decent shop. i prefer if acura does the servicing but if its 129 vs 40 bucks, i'll look elsewhere.

Just had mine done in Sacramento. They charged $51. Oil filter, washer $8. Oil - $7.50. $2 waste fee. $32 labor. Plus tax. I usually do my own work but I have found it difficult to remove the original oil filter. So I opted to have them do this work and fix the seat memory problem. They replaced the oil filter but A1 service says that only the oil needs replacing during this service.

Tire rotation shouldn't be more than $20 at the local tire joint. You can do it yourself but be sure to use a torque wrench cause most grease monkeys will use an impact hammer and over torque the lug nuts. Oil change shouldn't be more than $25 if you do it yourself. Use can get 5 gal jugs of premium motor oil at Walmart for $18. As for oil filters, go to Auto Zone and either use the Bosch around $6 or go big and use Mobil 1 for $11.

In an A1 service, the "A" means "replace engine oil", and the "1" means "rotate the tires". (Ref: Page 199, owner's manual)

Due to the long interval between MID recommended oil changes, the tires should also be rotated.

I guess I live in a lower cost area, because most of the dealers around here, regardless of make of car, charge about $25 for an oil change, everything included. I think BMW and Mercedes might charge more, but they always do.

I payed 36500 for silver/ebony 5speed auto w/o navi but with full a-spec package plus the 2 year deal and extended warranty. Pretty good considering msrp for non navi is around 33000 and aspec in averaging 5000 without install. And they gave me all of my stock parts, tires and wheels, suspension, steering wheel, stock kit. I pretty happy with it.

Being 85 and retired, I will have to go slowly. Bear with me.

If you trust the place, let them do it. Bring your own oil filter to be sure you get the right one installed. The filter should cost about $7-8. Nothing wrong with taking it to Valvoline.

I got under the car this afternoon. Have had it for a month now and was just curious as to how hard it would be to change the oil.
The drain plug and filter are right up front, just inside the right front wheel. Very easy to get at, so I will change my oil and rotate my tires when the time comes.

If you have a Discount Tire in your area, they'll rotate your tires for free (but they are kinda slow if there's anyone else in the store).

I had originally purchased the maintence package from my Acura dealer. This covered thru 45,000 miles. Covered oil changes every 3750 with tire rotation every other oil change. They were going to replace the transmisson fluid, radiator fluid and brake fluid during this time for ~$952. I ended up getting a refund because I did not think it was a great savings when I finally added things up. Plus, air filter was not covered. Also, with the maintence computer built in I can't imagine needing the transmission fluid right at 30,000 miles etc.

Services in New York.

I'd say this is COMMON price range for Acura dealership if you have them performed the service check, which would do dozens of inspections to your car. But, who knows if they really check your car detailedly. If you do the search, there are a couple of threads talking about this topic starting from the beginning of January. Besides me, there is another guy typing all the listed service items.

I did pay this money to get the service, but will not do it again.

IMO, whatever services you request your Acura dealer to do for you, it will cost $$$, especially this is not part of Acura warranty works. If you don't have coupon or voucher, the simple oil change will ask you pay 15-35 dollars. Others will just add up your bills. Do the math yourself. Acura will document tons of inspection items on the paper and charge your REASONABLE amount on your credit card.

If you don't want to DIY and could get the trustful place, you may ask them doing for you with less $$. If you never worry about money, please spend it over your dealer and make them happy.

dealer service schedules are ripoffs...if you look at the list of things they actually do, they don't do much but check this check that change oil...and so many people end up paying for this service...15k service 30k service etc..

Im not paying anything extra for it so I cant complain. My sales rep pretty much hooked me up with everything so I know that when I bring it in, they will do all that I want, at no extra cost

My friend's BMW sercie is only $69 and they take about seven quarts of synthetic oil. I don't know why Acura charges so much for service. I understand you need a fair amount of disposable income to afford a new TL, but people with money are, generally, fairly zealous about getting good value.

Just had my "A1" service at 6500 miles. This first service interval was nothing more than an oil change (dealer didn't do a tire rotation). They do perform the usual fluid checks and will top up your washer liquid etc...

After paying the $33 (which included vaccum and handwash), i asked if the next service interval was a major one and the service manager replied that it would be and cost around $129. I suspect that either your service contact jumped ahead on this one, mistakenly or otherwise.

btw, i would have done the 1st service at the honda dealership if not for the fact that they would have replaced the filter with a honda one and not the acura - from what i've heard, they fit the same but are different in configuration. i'd rather have the OEM.

I have the 2 years service with my TL. Just had the memory seat module replaced. While there I had them (1) Change the oil (first time) and (2) rotate the tires (also first time). I expected it to be my A1 service yet when the service writer came back, they wanted $54 for those two services. Once I showed her the policy I had, she tried to match up what they had done to the A1 service and claimed that the actual A1 service was a $120 RETAIL item yet the only other thing they do is inspect the brakes. She also showed me that since I had bought the service "in advance" that the value on my policy was $80 for A1, $100 for A2 and another $80 for the last A1 (Total value of 2 year "maintenance" contract = $260). BTW It's not two year of free service like you might get with Lexus, BMW or Mercedes (my other cars) but rather is for the "A" services ONLY. All intermediary oil changes are still at a cost. Sucks as it's not what I expected. Needless to say I asked her to use my $80 credit towards this $54 bill so that I didn't have any service cost this time. Oh yea, I also asked if they reset the lights so that I wouldn't get any near-future "notifications" from the dash telling me my A1 service was due. The service guy didn't know what I was talking about but did confirm that the Oil notification was now @ 100% so he "assumes" that I should not see a A1 notice anytime soon...

I just paid $29.99 + tax for an oil change at the dealer (after about 6870 miles). I took it in to also see if I can get the seat memory module replaced, but they found out that it was back-ordered for 2 weeks, so I said just do the oil change then. I'm trying to see if I can just buy the Acura filter and some oil and get it done cheaper elsewhere.

I paid $55 for my oil change, tire rotation, and wheel damage. They monkeys there dinged up my lug wells. They did replace two of my wheels, but not all of them and the two they left had the most damage. And in making them change the wheels, they knocked the car out of alignment. F'ING ACURA PIECES OF SHEET.

dafunda: the filter that goes on the TL engine is the same as the Accord V6's (oil is the same too). ANY Honda dealer can perform the basics. Only thing they many not know is resetting the service counter.

Rocketsfan,
The service advisor clearly stated that the tire rotation was not required for the A1 Service.
