I dont' think my installer put any felt on the inner "wiper" of each of the four windows, and i'm worried it'll scratch now.

Are any of you dealing w/ this issue w/o the felt/moleskin and not too worried about it?

I had my tint installed without the felt at the end of November, 4 1/2 months later & not 1 scratch. I roll my driver's side window up/down at least 2 times a day.

Nox -- why did the dealer pay for the second tinting?

Does anyone know if the Type S models of late had the same type of wiper blade system that required a mole skin .. or is this new for 2004 (and therefore the bane of my ownership ...)

Hey NOX... where'd you get your moleskin? Only place I can find it is CRLaurence but they only deal b2b. Any other sources for moleskin that you know of?

Do the door panels absolutely have to come off to install the mole skin?

I had Llumar platinum plus installed & mentioned the "moleskin" to the installer. He felt there was no need for it unless I had to drive on dirt roads. He also said that normal driving would not allow much dirt to get inside the window & I have to agree. I don't drive with my window down at all.

That being said, I don't have enough time with the tint to see any scratching yet. If I do, I'll certainly be back at the tint shop!

Hey porsche... any truth to Llumar PLatinum Plus interfering with GPS/Nav? I want to get the exact same stuff but haven't yet since I have no first hand experience with Llumar and don't want to mess anything up with the nav.

Oh crap! Sorry, flnsx. Didn't mean to scam business from you. Didn't read previous posts before posting.

And no, not affiliated with Tim's Glass in any way. Was just trying to help other forum users that are looking for the same thing.

Sorry again.

I have not noticed any problem with XM radio, or my navi. I was worried about getting AM reception, specifically the SF Giants games, but I get it OK. I'd say it's not as consistantly clear as before the tint, most the time it is fine, but sometimes it seems to fade out a bit.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't the GPS antenna located on top of the roof? I don't see how any tint would interfere with this!

Phew. Going to scedule tint appt. today then. AM not a big deal to me (except for Red Wings games but I'll live.)

I believe the antenna on top of the roof (little bulge on top, near the rear window) is XM.

I'm not aware of any material having been used. I will, however, take a closer look to be sure.

prior TL did have felt strips in the wiper blades, I checked.

The dealer paid for my 2nd tint, because the manager is my friend and I'm a repeat customer (this is my 3rd TL), and I told them it was an oversight in their design... The installation of the Mole Skin was free also.

maecrispy:
I bought the mole skin from the same place (CRLaurence), as I have my own company and was able to provide my EIN (tax id) number to them.

They only used about 1/10 of the whole roll, so now I will install it in the back windows (which are not scratched yet)...

XM radio antenna in on top of the roof
GPS antenna is under the rear deck.

I have had no problems with radio or GPS after the tint... (35%)

my guess is that they put too much into this new TL, so they wanted to cut down on cost somewhere thinking the customers would not noticed.
They probably didn't think it was going to cause a problem... (As tint is always an aftermarket thing)
I wonder what other cuts were made...

(I know the compartment for holding my glasses is gone from the top center console...)

Exclamation Urgent NAVI Antenna Warning re:tint

The GPS antenna is on the rear package shelf, according to the NAVI manual, page 3:

"If you have rear window tinting installed, be aware that if the tint has metallic properties, it can seriously degrade or prevent GPS reception. This is because the GPS antenna is located under the rear window beneath the package tray." -2004 Acura TL Navigation System Owner's Manual 2003.10.4

Also, AM reception is important to me. I haven't gotten a decent AM radio in an auto in many years. They don't seem to care about that. However, the AM/FM antenna is printed on the rear window.

It is the XM Satellite Radio antenna that is in the knob on the rear roof.

Thx NOX. Must be nice to have your own company eh? Or maybe not?

I was able to find a place near me who would order it from CRL and have it shipped to me so all's well.

So from what you sy above, am I correct that *all* four windows have the inner wipers? I was under the impression that only the front driver and passenger windows had the inner wipers.

Looks like I have to call my tint guy ASAP.
