It's been a while since I got on this forum; been busy with work and finally graduating college. Took longer than expected, but that's cuz I've been working for the past 3 years.
Had an 07 TL CGP senior year of high school, sept-ish of that year. Basically kept it stock other than switchback turn signals and tow-hook mounted license plate. It's a great daily car and I still drive it. 35k miles on it, looking good as new.
Just picked up a G37 IPL about 2 weeks ago. Hopefully this car will be as smooth and trouble free as the TL! I gotta admit tho, for a 2007 car, it has most of the features that the Infiniti has, and some things I took for granted...like selectable side mirror lowering for when you are in reverse, daytime running lights, and a better HUD IMO.
Looking back, I think the most important thing I realize is how fortunate I was to have a TL as my first car. I baby'd it as much as I could, kept it low mileage, dusted it in the morning before the dew, and took the time to learn all the features of the car.
Sorry for the long post, just felt reminiscent when I got an email about this thread!

At age 20, I was given this car as a gift. 05 TL w/98k miles. I now have 150k miles in just 2.5 years.
But since I was attending college full time, and had the financial support of my parents. So sadly no work. Yes, I know so many others worked at a young age. I am in my last year of college, and have done extensive community service work, extracurricular activities and current internship to build a strong resume to finally make my own money with a degree.
But I have never been ungrateful or spoiled. I stay true to myself and be genuine, not a spoiled brat who doesn't care for the world, its people and the everyday struggles many face give me a reality check.

21 and I financed my 08 MRP a few months ago. All by myself paying rent, bills, payments and insurance. It's hard and I'm left broke here and there, but drooling infront my car after a buff and wax is aaaaall worth it!!!

I bought my TL 6MT at the age of 21 for 11k cash. Wanted a Type S at the time but I just couldn't bring myself to make car payments. Paying interest on a depreciating asset is just not smart. Maybe in the future, still a full-time university student and my income is fairly sporadic.
I know young people in my area that drive GT-R's, R8's, CL63's, M5's, M6's, etc. etc. Yeah sick car and all, way out of my league, but I don't rate you unless you're paying the car yourself.
I notice with TL owners, those with 5AT tend to be used more as "family cars" whereas those with 6MT are there own personal car. Not generalizing, but there's definitely a pattern here.

Wow I thought I was the only young guy with a TL I'm 20 turn 21 in December but I saved up and am currently paying for everything on my car insurance gas obviously car payments for my 08 TL. I love it. Idk bout some of the people who are given things. I was given a lot and honestly I didn't really appreciate it. My dad told me you don't appreciate things unless you bust your ass and buy it yourself and he's is so right my car is always clean I take car of it so much maybe too much haha. Definitely appreciate what I have now.

I like manuals 10% of the time and autos the rest of the time. I have a weird knee problem that only shows itself when I drive a manual for more than a day at a time. I can run and do anything I want but pushing that clutch on hurts like hell.

I got the TL first cuz the insurance was much lower...and for a 4 door, it looks really nice. I like the look more than my brothers g37S sedan...but maybe not my G coupe.
I drove my 5AT aggressively all the time. Prob cuz people generally don't perceive it as a fast/sporty car, so tons Of cars would try to race me, and most aren't faster. Well the TL isn't that slow, still faster than average cars, even to this day. It's not "that" much slower than my new G... For a front wheel drive car, it surprisingly accelerated and handles better than many cars with more HP and more preferable rear-wheel drive. I've done canyon runs with the TL. Corners well...just gotta wait a tad bit longer before gassing it. Can't put as much power through and exiting turns. Nonetheless, the 5AT was the right choice in LA traffic........
Some 5at owners already have a fast car and realize the TL will always be slow no matter what transmission it has. Personally I'm the only one that drives or even rides in my car. I don't want negatives that come along with the manual unless it's in a sports car. When I used to track my TL I always wished for a manual. The only way to make it fun was to make it a little tail happy but that wasn't the quickest way around the track.

Agreed. I would go as far as saying they have the best FWD setup on the planet. That's what I like so much, the basic suspension type and the geometry are great from the factory so you're just a set of springs and shocks away from a great handling car. On my other car to make it handle decently without super stiff springs I had to move the front suspension mounting points so the frame had to be cut and welded on, use aftermarket upper control arms, long ballpoints to correct the instant center and when I was done almost nothing was left of the stock hardware. The TL is the exact opposite. The best thing is you don't have to have a really firm spring to make it handle because body roll doesn't negatively affect the geometry.

I got mine when I was 20. (I just turned 22) sold my old accord for the down payment. I've lived on my own since i was 17, so I know the value of a hard earned dollar. Here's how she looked about 4 months ago.

The Civic uses the MP strut setup because it's cheaper and it's easier to install and service. One of the problems with it is it can start with negative camber gain as the body first begins to lean, it will go into positive camber as the body rolls which is the last thing you want to happen. To make it handle you either need to run more static negative camber which hurts braking and acceleration and wears tires out quicker or run a stiff spring so it never leans enough to hit the positive camber.
The Civic absolutely does not out handle the TL.
The tests I've found show the base model TL on the worst tires offered on a TL pulls .81g on the skid pad. On the optional summer tires, the 6mt pulled .89 and the aspec pulled .9 or .91G on the skid pad which is very nice.
It looks like the Civic is in the upper .7 territory. I'll have to look up the Si when I get a chance. The TL is the better handling car while offering a better ride.

So you're 18 and have a '12 AWD TL as a driver and a Type S for a weekend car? Are sure you're not claiming your parents cars? If you have a new TL already why wouldn't you pick something decently quick for a weekend car? These kinds of threads always bring out people "stretching" the truth. I guess I have a 1200hp GN, a 12.60 stock turbo T, and even a CL65 AMG LOL.

I'm a 17 year old female who drives an 2007Acura TL. My dad bought it for me for my 17th birthday. So I do get lots of hate and jealousy but I keep on smiling. The haters will be haters. Don't let anyone tell you , you should be driving a nice car, they're jealous.
