How fast is your 3G automatic TL???

I got a new transmission put into mine (had transmission problems so dealer replaced it), and I feel like my car is slower. When you guys floor the car from stop do the wheels spin a little and then go? I remember I used to be able to chirp from 1st to 2nd with no problem, and occasionally even to 3rd (in an automatic!). With the new transmission I can't ever chirp!!!

Whenever I shifted gears, esp the lower gears, the car would jerk harshly. The check engine light came on and I took it in, and on my 3rd trip to the dealer they finally determined that I needed a new transmission.

That would be why you were chirping before. Jerky shifting = chirping.

I had a loaner TL from the dealer, when they replaced my TL. I floored it a couple of times after being at a red light (stomped on the gas pedel to the ground) and it never ever chirp. There was always a sec delay until the car accually went. Also tried to sping the wheel at a parking lot b4 for fun but i didnt know how to do it...lol

In my new TL, I notice if i press the gas to hard after a stop my tire would chirp. Never tried spinging my tire yet..and dont plan to.

I've had my TL up to 90 mph on the Turnpike; although, I don't drive like that frequently, but I do believe it is good every so often to "clean things out" from daily stop-n-go driving.

I have also "chirped" my tires, unwillingly. There is a slight slope onto the main roadway out of my neighborhood and sometimes if I pull out too quickly...they'll squeal (or chirp, whatever). I've asked my b/f about it before (because I could see while using a clutch and chirping the tires, but an AT?) and he thought it may be because I only add an extra 100 lbs. That's one theory. The other is my driving....

Regardless... my TL is quick, quick, quick off the git-go; it's relentless.

I would if that wasn't the flow of traffic....

And besides...the car may have been up to 90 for a whopping 2 minutes or so; my average highway mph is about 70 (5 above the limit). Give or take a few in passing.......

Don't listen to him. The TL is meant to cruise at 85 and frequently punch it up to 95.

Not doubting you here....but I have all the stuff you see below to enhance the performance of the 5AT TL......and quick quick quick off the git-go is a FAR stretch! It does ok...but I would stop way far before that statement!!

1.) You didnt stay with him
2.) He didnt "break" his tranny because if floored it all the time

Haha. Yeah, I totally agree. My brother-in-law had an SMG M3 and I've driven it a few times. Trust me, no comparison to our TL. When in "sport mode" you can feel the power of the car at any speed, and when you floor the car from a stop it'll literally leave you glued to your seat (kinda like a roller coaster). And the handling of the car is far superior to ours.

And no, I didn't floor it all the time (I'm not stupid). However, I've occassionally "raced" with others--basically going from 0-60.

Okay, okay.....................you got me!
JK.

I'm far from being a "Fast n Furious" racer type chick (especially w/ no mods); but I do feel that my car is quick, quick, quick and relentless to keep going. I'm a small female and 270hp is quite enough horsies for me. LOL. It's quick and powerful enough for me.................

Heck you can slap an SC on the TL and it's still not hanging with the m3 on the highway.

Ours chirps easily, even our 200HP minivan can chirp. Also, Harsh shifting generally leads to clutch packs lasting longer, at least that is what I hear.

Hmm that's very odd. I know a friend who has 75,000 on his TL and not a single problem. Mine only has 25,000 with a supercharger... ::knock on wood:: the tranny is like a bull, strong as always.

278whp by the way.

chirping of wheels also comes from size of wheel (smaller) and cheaper tires.

Remember, the TL powertrain is adaptive...

The automatic will adapt to your driving style. If you are driving moderately like most people do, or like a little old guy like me, your TL will adapt to it and not accelerate the same way with part throttle unless you change your driving pattern for a few days (10?) or re-flash the ECU.
My auto TL still easily chirps its stock Michelins in first even with traction control on; the car accelerates quickly enough for me. The TL's auto is very responsive (compared to every other auto I've driven)- silky shifts up and down, will drop down two or three gears with no hesitation on WOT-- so I never use the SS.
I've never floored the gas in first to see if it will chirp tires in shifting to 2nd, though.

Not true, I pulled on a M3 on the parkway last night. Starting from 60mph to about 90mph. I took him. It was hot, that cool ass blue color. I forget the name.

I've been thinking about saving up for a super charger. Is it worth it?? First off, I have an automatic, and secondly I never go canyon running or to the tracks. I sometimes "race" people on the highway or even at red lights, is that reason enough to drop 5 g's on an SC??

I guess the feeling of being able to keep up w/ an M3 is reason enough? hahah. What's really holding me back from getting an SC (other than the price) is that I have a stinkin automatic.
