How does TPMS Work?
ANyone know how the TPMS works? Saw the pics of an 06 TL that had the cutout in the rims for the TPMS valve stem.
There cant be a wire to transmit the pressure from the rim to the vehicle or can there? Does this system work by radio frequency?

Well, I have to admit my first assumption is that you're mess'n with us... :-)
If not, I can't believe the "Search Police" haven't already got to ya..
Either way, You are correct, each wheel houses a battery operated sensor/transmitter. Each send a signal to a wheel well mounted receiver or a single central receiver in the dash etc.
I have owned cars in the past with TPMS and could speak for them but currently don't know all the specifics for the 06 TL. Like you mentioned, on the TL the sensor is incorporated into the valve stem.
Cheers

I searched, threads had alot of speculation and examples of aftermarket systems available
Did not see anything specific as to the workings of the TL's system , I was really curious on the wire vs radio question, guess I didnt look hard enough
In all, seems to be an ingenious system

It's a new company formed 50/50 between Michelin and TRW Automotive. They are the supplier of the TPMS system for the TL.. They also supply the same (or similar) type of system on these cars:
* 2004 Honda Odyssey
* 2005 Acura RL
* 2005 Acura TL
* 2005 Honda Pilot
* 2005 Honda Ridgeline
* 2006 Hyundai Tucson
* 2006 Kia Sportage
* 2006 Alfa Romeo 159
- I think the MDX should also be in that list
They have some decent info on the "Products" page as to how the system works. Hope this helps you.
