How do you remove a shift knob on the 08 TL? I've read that you just unscrew it but that's on 04-06 TLs. I've tried to counter clockwise unscrew it but doesn't seem to budge. Any ideas? Try harder?

Twist the shift boot collar a bit and pull down and the collar should slide down. (there's a clip that holds the collar to the shift knob) If you have trouble getting the shift knob broken loose a nylon strap style filter wrench works great without damaging the leather on the knob.

I've read that post before. I think they changed how the shift knob comes off when they redesigned the interior of the TL from 04-06 to 07-08

I'll try that tomorrow and I'll be sure to post if it works!

AT <=> MT

AT = screw on/screw off

MT has the boot and collar.

When a question is posted it helps EVERYBODY if the OP lists year, transmission and/or trim.

I haven't been here for a full 15 days yet so it won't fully let me us the PM system but I did clear it.

And does it take some elbow grease to get the knob off?

I nearly killed my wrist taking the knob off my old Maxima. Nylon strap filter wrench did the trick and only cost $5 at the auto parts store.

Why are you so Asian?

Sorry I had to. No disrespect intended.

I agree. Are there different variations or levels of Asian?

Well Asia is a large area so I'm sure there are different "kinds" per se. Think about it, people from up north in America (effing Yankees) act and do stuff differently than people down south.

If it's a 6mt I love my Voodoo Titanium knob. Cost a fortune but it feels great, lowers the shifter height about an inch, has great weight to it, and perfectly matches the shiny parts of the interior of my car.
