Post How do u take off stock Shift knob???

I have the stock leather shift knob on my TL. I wanted to replace it with an aftermarket shifter. The shifter i want has 3 allen screws that hold it onto the post. Is this how the stock shifter is??? Or does the whole knob screw off??? Pleas give instructions on how to remove stock shifter.

Thanks

Allan

you just turn the stock knob counterclockwise like a bottle cap. the new one should slip over it with the three screws fastened on the sides to hold it in place. hope this helps

My rated R version is on the Technical Problems and Solutions board. Vulger and tedious if you don't have a sense of humor; but true.

I don't know. Mahogany, perfectly fitted for $25? Scared. Also, seems a bit taller than your 3g knob, are you thinking of putting it in you '00?

Sometimes you have to use two hands. Mine came off quite easily when I put my 08 TL-S auto knob on.

I bought one elsewhere, came off of an MDX. Used but nice, 40 bucks isn't bad.
Should arrive next week sometime.

I don't know why people always bring this up. Different owners run into differnt problems and questions at different years/mileage. Be glad I'm one of the few who use the "search" button.

^ Yes, that would be fine if you posted something meaningful, or a question or something. It is weird (to the rest of us) to bump an old thread to post the equivalent of "lol".

Anyways, time to hit the gym so I can get my damn shift knob off...

We are glad you used the search button, but all you did was post

He bumped a thread after SEVEN years, just because! Where were the self-righteous haters on that one?? I thought the comment I replied to was funny. SO my point is; if you're going to be harassing people who post for reasons that you, yourself would not post, at least be consistent. Better yet, use your mouse and click on "unsubscribe" button. That way you won't have be "bothered" by other members enjoying their time on Acurazine and enjoying each other’s comments. I'm sure this comment will get me

Because I spoke against a mod’s comment, I’m sure this comment will get me banned or at the very least, comment deletion.

Lol. If Fatty was that kind of mod, this sub-forum would be a lot quieter than it already is.

Ah no, i guess you cant read. None of them above Bumped a thread to say 3rd. It was you, No one else so why should they get flamed? They were all shaking their heads at you for bumping an old thread to just say that.

As for orgnlprankster7, that was an idiot bump as well.

...Is this thread about removing the auto shift knob or the manual one? I'm utterly confused, and almost dislocated my wrist trying to remove the one in my 5AT '00 TL. I want to know if removing the 5AT one is possible, seeing as I made one out of Purpleheart wood back in high school(unfinished, still just a rough shape; needs to be sanded, details need to be added, needs to be threaded to fit on the post...) so I just need to get it fitted.

Hi,

I just did this and had to use a pipe wrench (after wrapping the knob with a leather glove). That's how tight mine was on!

I just removed mine (2001 TL) the other day to make an adjustment to my shift cable, it unscrewed easily by hand.
