Question How come....

... there isn't a heel pad built-in to the OEM carpeted floor mats? While my TL is only a little over a month old, I'm worried about wearing out a spot in my carpets wher my heel rests while driving.
I considered all-weather mats for a second, but don't really like the way they look.

Am I the only one that has thought about this?

My sister's '05 Mini Cooper has a round rubber heel pad built into it. Admittedly, the Mini's floor mats are nowhere near as plush as my TLs, but come on.....

you'll be seeing 2 heel spots @ 15k or so...i found a set of used quartz mats on ebay cheap. i'm using those while waiting formy chaercoal mats to dry from scubbing/scotchgarding.

i suspect i'll be looking @ Lloyd's or some othe mat supplier in the near future...

i dont need to worry about wearing the mats because i cut out some plastic liner with the spikes under them and placed them over the mats. it adds a nice ice blue color to the car.

Try going to wal-mart and look for a piece of steel that you can attatch to the mats with nuts and screws. My bro did it on his TSX and it looked sweet.

You're worried about needing to spend a few dollars on a new set of floor mats every few years. Why? They are removable and easy to replace and the value of your car won't depreciate by having worn floor mats that are easily replaced. I'm sure that your dealer or an aftermarket supplier has floor mats in stock when you need a new pair. I usually buy a new set every 2 years or so and cough it up as part of the expense of driving a car everyday.

Gee, I thought it was just me. Floor mats are to protect the carpet under them. I would be surprised if they cost more than about $100 for the set. A heel pad scratches the back of my shoe which cost more to replace than the mats.
