hooking up aftermarket audio/amp/subs?
hooking up aftermarket audio/amp/subs?
Ok i got a JL 1000/1 amp and a JL 12w7 sub i wanna hook up to my 04 TL...anybody have any ideas on how to hook up an amp to the stock tl radio/cd player? i know if u have an after market head unit, u would use RCA's, but i know stock headunits do not use RCA..so if i can get some help it be greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Your correct about the part where the Stock HU doesn't use RCA. Your gonna need a hi-low converter. I think it goes from anywhere around $20-30 at your local stereo shop or any electronic's store. As for hooking up subs and amps.. I haven't heard anything about anyone touching it since the setup is completely different than the 2nd. gens. Good luck to you

i want to do the same thing to mine and i asked a few people regarding this for my 2002 maxima with bose system...yes that is different than the TL (especially if you have the NAVI)...now what i was told to do is to get a line out converter (that's basically RCA plugs but one end has the plugs and the other end the plugs are cut off so you use the copper wire inside the wire enclosure)...you have to take that and look behind the head unit and find the back speakers input into the head unit...spice those wires up together so that way you get POWER in the amp...and then you can just do it normally as you would in an aftermarket radio...now that's what i was told to do for my maxima (i never got the chance to do it) so don't take my advice seriously...lol...last thing i want to do is have someone mess up their car because of what i was told...so just letting u know...but the concept seems right because u just want the amp to get the power and usually back speakers have more power than the front...but if you find out how to do it in the TL then let me know...thanks....
there's a stock sub????? dude, just pull the damn thing. take the feed wire for the stock sub and tap them with the converter that ill*tl said. tuck it away somewhere neat, and run a short rca signal cable to your new amp. if you're putting in a new sub, you don't want a lower performance sub back there muddying things up. keep it clean. this way, no need to tear into your center console and fuss with messy wiring, not to mention the PITA it'll be running a fat rca to the rear (and it would have to be fat)
Serin,
The sub doesn't muddy anything up. It's pretty tight IMHO (esp. on DVD-Audio tracks). Ironcailly, people are so used to muddy car systems that they may actually DESIRE a crappy, less accurate sub to replace the stock!

what i did with my 2nd gen was found the amp and (the stock amp behind the seat) and there was a bunch of plugs on there pulled the connector off with a small screw driver.. so i looked under little pannel on the amp to see what was what.. and taped into there and used a 3 ft rca cable... i got my remote there and also got the soud to my high to low converter... and just ran 4 gauge to the trunk... same concept just find the amp and you will be set... the amp is labeled... remote positeve negative.. i used a voltage meter to find out witch the remote was...

correct, most of us ARE used to sub-par stock subs (esp nissan's bose subs). but i think we can discern the difference between crap and not. i'm going off of 2k4TLkev's desire to replace the stock sub. so i assumed that it's either lacking in quality or power. if the stock sub is good quality, then more power to ya.
whatever the case, the point is that if he wants to install the aftermarket sub and amp, he doesn't have to tear into the console to do so. he can simply tap the existing wiring back there. ideally, he can tap the signal cable to the stock amp and divert it to the aftermarket amp.
cheers.
My buddy installed a sealed box with a JL 10" sub into his ride. I couldn't believe the amount of bass that poured out. I wonder if the TL's sub is a free air or has a sealed enclosure.
If I change mine, it will definetly be that same JL !!
