Question Hood won't latch

I just picked up my 2004 TL on Thursday and on Saturday I decided to check out the engine compartment. When I went to close the hood it decided that it wouldn't lock into place. The first latch catches no problem and I can push the hood all the way down, it just won't lock. The cable is still connected to the lever on the interior of that car so it doesn't seem to be anything with that. Anyone have a suggestion? I don't want to have the car towed after only a few days.. they always screw it up on the truck.

I find that I have to close my hood quite hard to get it to catch. The salesman mentioned that to me when I picked it up.

That was it!

Wow, I feel pretty stupid! That was it though, I just slammed it way harder than I would have expected and it latched shut. That's definitely something they're going to have to adjust when I bring it in next time. I checked out my vin.. it ends in 00219.. is that a rediculously early build?

RJC, is it eacy to close your hood?

I have to drop it from quite high to get it to latch (1600's vin), manual says to close and push on it, that does not seem to do the trick, I seem to distort the hood when I do this, but it does bounce back, but I do not do this anymore.

Thanks!

yes, very easy. I noticed the TL on the showroom floor (#750) took quite a bit of effort and the sales guy was surprised. Our car (#10,000+) has no problems.

When my dealer was showing me the car he opened the hood and said don't slam it shut under any circumstances as it could dent the trim. He just let it go from a foot up and it closed fine.

I've noticed on a lot of newer cars that you have to just drop the hood from about a foot from the latch.
