HONDA RECALL - Transmission - Aug 2011

not sure if it was posted in other forums/threads...but note how they mentioned the 05 accords and up.. why not the TLs if there are so many tranny issues with our cars?!

Interesting... Unfortunately this won't address 99% of the failures on here. They're talking about a hard parts breakage and the typical failure on here is worn clutch packs due to old pressure switches and factory fluid.

It makes me mad though, they will issue a recall for an outright failure that has the potential to hurt people but won't do anything about the pressure switch issue that causes all of these failures over time even though we know the cure.

They've been reflashing our PCM for years. Nothing new here.

Sounds to me like the TSX is a better candidate for inclusion than the TL as it applies (if I'm reading this correctly) to the 4-Cyl Accords and their PCM.

.... including select 2005-2010 Accord models powered by a 4-cylinder transmission, ....

I don't understand why Honda hasn't been able to build a reliable transmission since 1998? What happened?

And btw ... while I was checking suspension parts under my car I noticed alot of transmission fluid thats been leaking... all I can say is thank god for that extended warranty.

They went electronic in that year and started going for softer, more comfortable shifts instead of reliable quicker shifts.

Yeah but you would think that a decade would be enough for a company like Honda to get their shit together. For crying out loud ....look at how far Hyundai has come!

You would think... Personally I think they have to know how to fix it. Back to that original pressure switch thread, when I went into the old trans shop I used to work at and mentioned the problems, the owner brought up the pressure switches like it was common knowledge. This shop was always on the cutting edge of technology, way more up to date on the electronics sides of things than most shops but still, lots of people in the auto trans rebuilding world know of this problem and the cure. I believe there have been articles on the problems and cheap fixes in some of the automatic transmission rebuilders association magazines. I put it on the internet in the hopes that word would spread and it has. I'll guarantee if some shop in the armpit of California knows what the cure is, Honda knows too.

But with that said, I'm still amazed at the techs who can't diagnose a simple problem. Or when a member of this forum tells them it's probably a pressure switch and they deny it, I don't know if it's pure ignorance or if they're supposed to play dumb. Back to the old shop, the owner said they replace the 3rd and 4th gear switches at least once a week now and at one time in the late '90s to early 2000s they ordered pressure switches by the hundreds.

My friend's 06 5AT never changed 3rd and 4th switches, he changed his ATF once with Z1. It's his DD car and now sitting at 110k miles. Never had a tranny issue. I think there's also luck involve in here.

The switches piss me off because no shop can provide a quote on how much to change them on my 08. Alldatapro and other databases don't provide the estimated time to do it

Tell them its exactly 30 mts. when the car is up in the air, or most shops will just bill you based on hourly anyway. Anymore and they are hosing you.
