Honda Accord 08 6MT vs My TL Type S 2008 5MT

So my buddy got an accord and we raced

Both STOCK

First time he beat me by 2 car lenghts, I had a really bad start
Second time I had about 90 pounds in my back seat and he had 2 passengers and I beat him by a car lenght both times

We both made a bet that I said He will only beat me by half a car length but he states that he would beat me by a car and a half.

It would be a good race yea?

This is not a far race. You race one then switch cars and race again. It matters who's driving.

I'm assuming you mean 5AT TL-S?

If that's the case, both stock with no passengers or additional weight .. 6MT Accord will take the TL-S given a proper driver.

When I first got my 6MT 09 Accord I beat the 6MT TLS by a fender, switched drivers and same result.

If you have a 6MT TL-S then that is a great drivers race with a slight edge to the Accord 6MT IMO(from the 1/4 mile times I have seen). The TL-S 5AT should have no chance unless the accord driver can't drive.

when I bought my TL-S 5AT I actually chose between my car and a 08 Accord Coupe EX-L Navi 6-SPD. TL just felt right when I got behind the wheel.

The TL is a sweet ride. Being faster isn't everything.

It's not all about straightline speed though. You can be comforted in knowing the TL-S looks infinitely better, handles far better, brakes better, and has a status an Accord could never come close to matching. It's the entire package that makes the TL-S such a good car.

A much cheaper Altima V6 would give my G35 a major run for my money and probably beat me in the 1/4 mile, but that thing doesn't stand a chance on any sort of road course event.

I think it goes without saying that the TL-S is a better car than the Accord in other categories than outright speed. I think it'd be a great race though.

Yea, straight line speed isn't everything. Honestly, if I would've known the TL came in 6 speed when I was looking for a car, I would've gotten in over my Accord without question. Don't get me wrong, I love my Accord, but the TL is a better car. The interior is nicer, the exterior styling is nicer (by a slim margin, although subjective), handling is much better, comes stock with LSD among other things. I still think the TL is one of the nicest cars out in the price range. Interior/Exterior is perfect in my eyes and honestly, I may be looking at one for my next car. Though that won't be for awhile...sigh.........

One thing I don't understand is why they didn't continue with the LED tails in the 8G Accord. It would be SO much sexier with LED tails. My 7.5G has them, don't know why they didn't continue.

on the LEDs, seems kinda backwards, and the majority of the competition now has it. It's a small thing, but still, shouldn't be overlooked.

Yeah and thats why I got it. The whole package, automatic (didn't want manual) the features, sexy exterior/interior and the exclusivity of having a Type-S. When I bought it and before I became a member on here I thought I would be a little bit faster than an accord but even thought now I know I'm not its doesn't bother me one bit. I'm content.

Well that's because the TL is heavier than the Accord. Try to chop some weight and then see the difference.

I think the 07/08 TL Type-S is 286HP and the 8th Gen Accord is 273. Comparable but again comes down to weight!

Ive raced a TL Type S and duSted it in the process from stand still by a cars lenght BUT when we did a 20mph roll I was probably a nose ahead.

wow! nice revival! Now that we are on the subject, there was a 2012 Accord V6 6MT that ran a 13.7@102MPH stock. I have never seen a stock TL-S 6MT do that!

lol so that basically means a 2012 Accord v6 6mt is faster than a 2012 TL Sh-AWD 6mt in the 1/4 mile.

awesome.

Exactly.... Honda Accord can't handle turns. You run into a steep curve at high speed it'll go straight. With Type-S 6MT you have the chance. And of course the F-Sport IS350....

I'd rather have a TL-S

IS350 is overpriced for what it is. Still a great car though.

Mine stickered $46.3k. Got it for $44.7k. That's with F-Sport pkg which is a smokin hot deal. The IS350's are priced just right considering its build quality and high quality rich materials used and the gaps are tight in and out.

Are you referring to the 3rd gen TL? The problem with the TL is that the gap between the dash and doors are huge. You can almost stick your baby finger in it. It is the TL that is overpriced man. The reason being they are made with horrid build quality. Door panel feels cheap. Low grade leather on the seats. Dashboard cover is not soft / plush like the 2IS. The instrumental gauge and instrument top cover is made of cheap plastic. I felt horrible when I spent some time driving the TL.. I hear / read horrid stories of TL 6MT having issues releasing clutch and the famous 3rd gear synchro issue due to the design and engineering failure. This is one of the biggest problems. Also the BOSE audio system in the TL is terrible... they sound so muddy / cloudy and lack dynamics. The Lexus Audio is far superior. All these are the reason why I didn't go with the TL.... The Acura is not what it used to be before. It's no longer the same as Integra/Vigor/Legend days......

The only thing I respect for the TL is the availability for Manual Transmission and the smoothness of VTEKKKKKKK KICK IN YO~~~~~

And TL Auto has serious transmission problems.... not any better than some older model American makes as far as reliability goes. The engine itself is OKAY however.

The quality just ain't the same as it used to be man.......... Now the Acura RL is good. It's built nothing like the TL but it's a granny car..... too heavy and has soft ride and stickers $50+k. Yo I know about carz manngggggg told u and told u.

I know my cars too man. I'd still rather have a 07-08 TL-S any day. Just me though. I have driven the IS. In fact my friend has a IS-F. Great car, but severely over priced for what it is. The ELS sound system is light years better than what lexus has to offer. Acura did not equip the 3rd gen with bose, the 2nd gen had bose. Every car company has its problems and Toyota is no stranger to problems. I am not biased either. I own a 2012 Rav4 V6 Limited. Great car. what a sleeper!

OK, it's ELS Surround audio. Feel betta now?

It uses BOSE speakers IIRC. It doesn't matter. The audio doesn't sound good.

IS-F isn't overpriced. It is actually worth that much.

The ELS sound system is light years better than what lexus has to offer.
That is totally wrong.... I thoroughly checked out ELS sound system in a TL and it sounded muddy / spongy, lol. And that's with treble jacked up all the way. Nevermind Mark Levinson, the standard Lexus audio in the 2IS is far superior. The sound is crisp and has more space and depth. It's not just more number of speakers it's the quality of the sound.. You said it completely backwards man.

I'm talking specific to Lexus 2IS, not Toyota. Lexus 2IS didn't have gas pedal issue. No transmission issues like the TL's have, oh and Honda Civic and Accord's too.

IS250/350's are cool. The build quality, stereo, and ride far surpass anything the TL could offer. Nothing to get worked up about in the slightest bit. I used to own an '04 TL and spent very much time in that car. Now I've got an S2K and considerable seat time in a 6MT is250 (girlfriend's DD) as well as a couple test drives in an IS350. Lexus build quality beats Acura's, no questions asked and it's been more reliable then my TL was. Now if we're solely basing it on looks though, the TL-S wins by a long shot. 2IS's always come off as chick cars to me now (and that's coming from a dude who drive a convertible the size of a miata lol). Straight line speed - The IS350 will murder the TL-S. There was a thread a couple years back where someone in a fully bolted 6MT MRP TL-S with full bolt ons and when he raced his brother's I/E IS350 the TL-S barely won. I'm talking a half car length at best.

I know this thread was about the new Accord vs the TL-S but I'll have to agree with Trollzilla for once; The IS350 is the superior car in comparison to the TL-S. Too bad it doesn't come in a 6MT.
