Homelink Range Issues in 07 TL-S

I've had my TL-S for about two months and I've noticed that I need to be about 15 - 20 feet from my garage door before my Homelink will work. We also have an '04 Odyssey with Homelink and that works from at least 150' away from the garage. Has anyone else had range issues with their Homelink? Have you found a fix? Is this a common problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

I have that same problem. I barely have any range with my TL-S. I have not found a fix. I am also looking for a fix.

I have an 07 TL-S and I'm able to open the garage 50 ft away.
And I also have an 06 Odyssey which seems to have even longer range although I've never tried to see how far away I can use it.

I have a 05 5AT w/ Navi and the range on my apt's garage door is less than 25 feet, often times around 15-20 feet....

My community gate opens from a couple hundred feet away but I have to be in my driveway for the garage to open. I assume it's the different receivers. In my Infiniti, my gate opened from a couple hundred feet away as well, but for my parent's gate I had to be right up on it.

it depends on where the receiver is located.

It also depends on what (structurally) is interfering. And how good the receiver is.

I can open my garage from all the way at the end of my street. (about 6 houses down)

I have one of the buttons programmed to open my parents garage, and I have to be directly in front it of.

This tells me the problem is not with the homelink.

Look at the garage door operator and notice how the wire antenna is situated. It should hang down to where it has maximum exposure to the street. Some are coiled up behind the operator with little exposure until you are in the driveway, close to the door.

i have the same problem with my 06 tl that i had with my 04 tl

i have to be about 15 feet from my gate to open it with my homelink, but if i use the clicker that i received when i bought my place it works from at least 200 feet.

this leads me to believe the problem is with the signal strenght of the homelink.

if enough people respond maybe acura will up the strength of the signal

For some reason the acura homelink is weak, my toyota and my sister BMW can open my garage over 100 feets and my 07 TL never seem to work until im right at the drive way . I know it not TLs only because it happen to my friend MDX .

Hmmmmm don't all HomeLink made by the same company?

I'm starting to wonder if it's not a directional thing with the TL. I was able to get it to work (repeated this twice thus far) from about 200' away the other day, but it was as I was turning the corner and the car was pointed towards the garage at the instant that I was depressing the button. Once I pass that point, it doesn't matter how much I press the button, it will not work again until I'm within 25-50' of the garage door.

That would at least explain why it's not working until I'm almost on top of it. I back into my garage, so once I pass the turn that points me at the garage for an instant, I'm never facing the door again.

I'm not sure. Like I mentioned, our Odyssey does not have this issue. Perhaps it has something to do with how the Homelink system is mounted in the TL that blocks the signal unless you are pointed at the device. I'll probably try taking a look at the antenna on my garage door opener and verify that it is fully deployed as well.

I think it doesn't have any "peripheral" vision. If I am at right angles to the garage it will not work, but my street has a slight curve before my house, and if I hit the button and bounce it off my neighbor's brick mail box it will work, but if I am going straight ahead it will not work until I turn into the driveway.

I read this thread and got a bright idea to extend the antenna, so I took some plain wire and ran it from the motor to the front wall of the garage and stapled it to the inside of the wall. I only got to try it once and it worked better, but I will check it a few more times and update this post if necessary.

I'll be interested to hear your follow-up on the antenna wire extension. If it works, I'll give that a try. Although I'll probably wait until it warms up a bit first.

Will do. I'll try and do a test soon, because just waiting until I come home each day will take a while to figure it all out, so I'll try and speed up the process.
