Unhappy Homelink problems..

Anyone else having problems with the Homelink gear on these cars? I've heard a few discussing range issues but none apparently as sever as I'm expirencing. The Homelink system works just fine when my car is parked in the garage directly under the GDO (about 2.8 feet away from the roof of the car). But will not work from any greater distance. Seems to me like the transmitter on the car is defective and/or the antenna was not connected properly in the factory. I KNOW it is in this car because my other cars homelink systems work flawlessly from around the corner (about 1200 feet away)

Tint should not have any effect on Homelink performance, especially such a dramatic one. Both of my previous TLs had metallic tint and Homelink worked great. He just has a defect that needs to be fixed. Period.

it's not in the tint

Same results with and without tint so it's not in the tint. Just curious if others have had the same problem. Seem to recall another guy with limited range issues. Thought these could be the tip of an iceberg. Will update everyone after my 1/7 appointment.

my girls 2003 TL-S and my 2004 TL have the same issues. Its a issue with Acura's homelink system it seems, or the location of the sensor in the vehicle..

It works perfectly inside the garage, but when we come home, we have to get up on the garage door for it to trigger and then back up to allow it to open.. it sucks....

The issue must be with your particular garage opener. I had a 2003 TL-S and now have 2004 TL. Both work flawlessly with my Sears garage openers. I can open the doors about 50 feet in front of the driveway.

Mine works fine. I have a Sears opener. I have to press the red button on the opener then press the homelink button AFTER I "trained" it with my existing Sears remote. My opener has the rolling code feature. You might need to redo the whole exercise.

Last post on this for a while

Thanks for everyone's input. This is a service issue with the homelink system. It IS faulty and I will report back here once Accura has resolved it. It's a Wayne Dalton door opener. It's not the rolling code issue because it is a rolling code GDO and I have programmed the homelink via the rolling code function. It does open the door, but not from any range.

I had a problem with my Homelink...

I have a stanley garage door opener. Quite old.
It's one of those with 8 or 10 DIP switches which you set into a random up/down code.
You then open up the remoted and set the same up/down code.

Anyway, I tried programming the homelink from the remote I had.
It would not learn it.
I did the reset and everything, it just wouldn't learn it.

I called homelink and still it would not work.
Then they asked what brand remote I was using, and then they told me it would not work with that brand.
(This was a small keychain-sized remote I picked up at Home Depot.)

So, I took the remote out of my wife's car and used that one to learn the code. That one worked fine (and was the same brand as the other one that didn't work.)

What did I learn?
Well, no two remotes are alike, even when they both work and supposedly put out an identical signal.

My suggestion for you?
Try new batteries, and/or a different remote to teach your homelink.

Hope this helps - good luck.

Just a few minutes ago I opened my garage with Homelink from the street before even turning into the driveway... you definitely have an issue with yours.

The homelink in my current TL and my retired CL works great on the front gate (gated community) and on my garage...I think the solution is clear and simple...all those with problems should simply buy new houses with new garage door openers and try the homelink again. If you still find problems, continue to buy new houses with new garage door openers until the problem is solved. If all else fails, remove the door to the garage, thus eliminating the need to open and close it.
