Hit Rev Limiter in AT

My cousin decided that he wanted to drive my car. Of course, I didn't want him to drive my car and him being a 6'3, 260 lb beefcake, I had no choice. He took my car out and we hit the freeway and he decided to floor it. Unknowingly he put it into SS and her floored it to redline and it lagged there. I was panicking like crazy and saw the 2 on the dash so I moved it back to normal drive after a few seconds or less. Is this gonna cause serious damage, or is it no big deal?

2nd gear, huh?

Acura says:

...In second, third and fourth, the transmission won't upshift without a command from the driver; the ECU cuts off fuel flow to the engine if there is danger of over-revving the engine. The transmission will upshift itself to prevent engine damage in the rare situation where the fuel cutoff alone is unable to prevent further engine over revving (as could happen on a steep downhill)...

You should be fine. I remember the owner manual also addresses the similar concerns, please check it out.

Get a new cousin. Blood is thicker than water, but I'd still want to hurt him badly.

It's your TL. You don't have to let him drive.

forgot to mention mine is a secdond gen TL, therefore the rev limiter is at 6900rpm, but sometimes u get to bounce it to 7000rpm

it gets you up to 105mph on 3rd at 6900rpm and gives u a gd run if you need to race with somebody

3rd gen TL's rev limiter is at 6800rpm, did that in a test drive LOL

The rev limiter is there so you DON'T do damage. You didn't do damage. End of story.

Its not such a big deal its a failsafe in there incase you forget to shift to keep you OUT of red.

like it said if you are on a steep downhill and the car hits the rev limiter, gravity will still be accelerating the car. if the car picks up speed past the 6700rpm mark it can over rev without even stepping on the gas.

If RPM is revving high and cut-off won't help, the tranny of 3G TL would upshift itself... you prolly won't see over-rev...

It should be OK, but you wouldn't want to make a habit of it!

No, it was a highway straight away. As soon as i entered the highway and floored it. I know for sure it went past redline, but not exactly sure how far (maybe 7100 rpm). After i decided it was enough of redlining i shifted into 3rd and the rpm range was already between 4,500 and 5,000. My car usually masses at around 60-70(5?) mph when im driving it and pushing it to its redline in 2nd. These numbers do seem a bit high. What are the specs of the gear/speed?

Usually, 2nd gear would go to Redline 6800 RPM around 67-75 MPH, the 3rd gear btwn 4500 and 5k would be around 70-82 MPH.
