Question High Frequency Noise

Is anyone else getting a steady high frequency noise when in Park and idling normally. It's not real loud and you can hear it only when standing Outside of the car...I checked the engine compartment which seems ok. Is this normal or is this the start of the famous tranny problems iv'e been hearing bout?

are your headlights on? Could be your HID lamps... (which is normal)

I do hear it but I think it's a normal noise from the exhaust. Get down near the rear and see if it gets louder. I think I know what you are referring to. I hear it on mine as well and never worried about it.

A high frequency noise is likely not an exhaust note, as those resonances are low in the audible spectrum. Some people can hear high voltage ringing from coils, as in the injector solednoid windings, the high energy ignition, etc.

One thing always to check with noises is to see if it is RPM dependent - does the noise change as RPM varies? It is not likely to be the tranny, esp if we are talking about neutral here.

On some cars, the sound of the fuel pump is quite loud, but that tends to be near the fuel tank and not the engine. It would make sense, though, for the sound to carry in the fuel lines.
