Thumbs up HID replace with LED 2007 TL Type-S

This has been very stressful. Weeks of research and making all kinds of phone calls. I was on the phone with a guy at Diode Dynamics. The brand I want. We spoke for quite a while about AZ and cars. He assured me that Their best LED's would fit where the HID bulbs go. But 6-8 weeks as One is out now. I asked about DS2 and he said the H11 Or 1 series would fit where the HID bulbs are. Our call ended. I didn't want to wait 6-8 weeks. Did more research on Amazon, eBay, etc. Called back about 5-10 minutes later "Diode Dynamics" In my cell Phone, Yes I called the same place. This other guy said they do Not sell DS2 LED bulbs for my 2007 Acura TL Type-S ??? I told him I just spoke with a guy for about 5 minutes. He asked his name ? I said, I didn't ask. So I went back on Amazon, looked at DS2 Bulbs, and they are the same diameter as the Diode Dynamics ??? B/S Trying to find quality. So many other Brands show where the LED bulbs are mounted on the shaft are the same size as Diode Dynamics. I have searched here on AZ for a week or so B4 Posting. What ? Where ? Is a Good quality 6,000k DS2 HID replacement LED Bulb ?? Thanks if anyone knows ??

1. Our HID bulb is D2S not DS2.

2.H11 or H1 wouldn not fit. You can't fit H11 into D2S

3. H11 would fit in the fog lights.

Any reason you want to go LED when the TL HID Bi-xenon projector is still one of the most coveted and sought-after projectors out there? Why would you do that to yourself The projector was made and tuned for HID bulbs and putting an LED bulb in there will just degrade your performance.

x2 on What Mr. Moderator said above! I don't understand why people "retrofit" or go "LED" on our TLs when they already came with damn good Projectors and HIDs already from the factory.

Thank you, took the words right out of my mouth.

@JD TL-S, I know lots of folks are enamored with LED bulbs, but for cars which have factory HIDs, there is virtually no way to improve the light cast from the projectors (but lots of ways of reducing the amount of light); your best bet would be to simply put in a new D2S and call it a day.

I changed mine with the Osram CBI. Big difference. But again I was used to the original bulbs that where probably like 8 year old already.

I know that this thread is a few months old, but I'm doing a little research on which headlight replacement bulbs I want to go with.... was thinking about switching to LEDs because of the no warm up period. Sometimes I flash my hi-beams at people to signal them to "go" and would like a bulb that responded instantly.

I'm installing new headlights, and replacing both the fog lights and the DRL while I've got everything apart.... I figure, what the hell - why not replace the headlight bulbs too? Would the Osram D2S CBI's be true plug-n-play? If so, I may go that route. Thanks!

Any 35W D2S bulb will be "plug-n-play" as that is the type of the bulb.

It's like any H11 bulb can by replaced by any other H11 bulb.

Thanks to this thread I'm on the fence between CBI or CBB
CBB says Off Road use? Anyone have experience between the 2?

I have CBI but I bought them when CBB weren't available yet. I would get CBBs now.

Also, why not get them from Amazon? They are for ~$90 from there. Sure there is a small risk they won't be original, but you can always check the serial number on Osram's website and if any problem return them.

Exactly I just noticed the price a couple of hours ago was going to get it off amazon. Just can't decide between CBI or CBB because of lack of reviews. Leaning towards CBB because the CBI purchasers are complaining of the light being more yellow than OEM.

Thanks for this!

For those that upgraded the DRLs, did you guys go with LED or HID kit? How about fog lights? Just bought my friend's '08 TL-S and looking tp upgrade the lighting.

"Low power" LEDs for DRL are bright enough to be seen during the day. You don't want something extremely bright as DRL housing is designed to spread light like a flashlight (doesn't have cutout like headlights) so go too bright and you will blind oncoming traffic. This and also you are running risk of melting the housing (as it was not designed to have powerful bulb there)

So currently the light bulbs closes to the center of the hood don't work, which is my DRLs I'm guessing? Please correct me if I'm wrong My high beams come on but they aren't very bright. Are the high beams and low beams running off the same bulb? I see 2 different bub sizes though so that can't be.

Bought the car from my friend so I am trying to clean it up a bit. The idea is to get a proper set of bulbs for the low beam (Don't worry, not going LEDs). Next would be to upgrade the DRLs and fog lights to yellow (looking for a fog light that has yellow lens, not yellow bulbs).

Yes, on all versions of the 3G TL, the "Headlights", both low-beam and high-beam are the same bulb with just different lensing. Unless the previous owner of your car messed with the bulbs and housings, the high-beams should be plenty bright. I live in a rural area and use my high-beams on a semi-regular basis, and they are some of the best bright lights I've had on any car.

+1 on LED for DRL, perfect application. previous owner might have tried installing LED DRL's unsuccessfully as it requires an additional wire harness from the battery and load resistors to properly work.

You can try replacing the bulbs for the low/high beam (D2S) to see if that helps. If it is still dim, chances are Previous Owner also put in crappy bulbs that deteriorated that inner bowl of the projector causing it to fail prematurely.

Yea, I gotta sort it out because the low beam works great (based on what I see) but the high beams only add another 10% of light output when I turn them on, so I think there is an issue. I believe maybe he tried putting LED bulbs. However, how when I look up low beam and high beam bulb sizes, I get 2 different sizes? Doesn't add up to me.

Copy that. Going to give that a try. I hope there's no damage to the internals of the headlights. I hate when things don't work properly.

So get the low beam bulb from TRS, LED bulbs from VLEDs for the DRLs. Anyone know of a place for yellow lenses fog lights?

Let me clarify, the 'light' doesn't get brighter, the AMOUNT of light increases because a solenoid pushes a shield down and more light is allowed through the projector lens. The bulb stays the same, the wattage/etc. stays the same, just the cut off shield drops down and more illumination shows up

Just get some yellow lamin-x and apply it to the fog light lens.

Ok, I wasn't sure if all projectors are the same way or not. When I retrofitted projectors into my Tacoma headlights, I was able to mess around with the shield, pushing it up and down.

For those that got LEDs for the DRLs, which company did you guys go with? Is there a kit that someone makes specifically for the Acura TL? Just trying to buy it from one place and not source it from different websites.

The shields on the OEM projector are less 'moveable'. but in concept, if the projectors you use were bi-xenon, they are the same.

VLEDs sell led's that will work for fogs as well. TRS sells LEDs as well that would work (Morimoto 2Stroke)

I know you guys mention a resistor and wiring to the battery, but would one of these be suffecient? This would be for the DRLs.

R2 is the right one

But also, you'll need a 9005 wiring harness

So the DRLs had LED bulbs in them. I pulled them out and replaced them with stock bulbs, still don't work. Praying to baby Buddha that it's something simple as a fuse

Lucky me, just a fuse. Thought I was going to go down the long road and chase down a wiring harness that has been chewed up by rodents.

I ordered these off Amazon for $30, straight plug and play. They look great and have been running fine for awhile now, granted I don't drive my TL much. No flickering, always come on.

He put "headlight" LED bulbs into DRL "shine like a flashlight" projector. Kinda like driving on high beams all the time.

But what can you do? People do whatever they please, and that's why we have jeeps with big ass lightbars ON driving at night.

I'm also wondering how they can be "plug-n-play" without any harness/modification.

Fixed for you

I'd be really surprised if there was no harness or resistors to be installed either. Can you clarify @BreezyTL

The bulb has a built in resistor to the wire. It is about a 6-8" long lead from the back of the bulb and cooling fins that plugs in directly to harness.

Angle of the picture and pictures always create glare. It isn't too bad standing there but never stood out in front to see it at a further distance.

ahhh so do you still have a wire harness coming from the + side of the battery, or is it truly plug and play and you plug into the factory plug on either side?
