What? Want some Hight Intensity Discharge Xenon projectors for your license plate?

You either want LEDs or Cold Cathode.

you laugh, but I would kill for something like this. Can you picture a xenon beam of light, with sharp cutoff angles so it shines on just the plate?

Mainly it depends what you would like to do. Like Kennedy has said, LEDs are easier to install. Cost are about equal.

The Cathodes will be brighter than the LED no doubt, but they are harder to install.

I'm buying these too. I love how they look and higher end too. I'll admit I love how they look on the Lexus ISs and what not whenever I see them.

I'm not convinced the cold cathodes are brighter anymore, here's the new LEDS I reviewed in the "autolumination" thread...

Cold Cathodes are brighter no doubt.

Question is how much light you really want.

Ummm...

Take a picture at DUSK and lets compare. Look how much ambient light exists in my picture, and how dark it is in yuor photos.

I'll take a picture in the pitch black tonight for you.

Kennedy look at how much the plate is lite up. Look at how much of the grey surround is lite up. MORE of it is. More of the bumper is. Please STOP being so defensive about your LEDs. You don't see me bashing your LEDs.

Defensive?... I couldn't care less... Nor am I bashing. I'm stating my opinon based on what I've seen. It seems you're more interested in defending your mod.

I'm not here to bash that either, I think it's cool but way overkill.

From the pics I see, the "brightness" is equivalent. The cold cathodes may light up more of the extraneous area (which I don't agree is the case, but that's your arguement) , but again, is the purpose to light up the bumper?

Let's agree to disagree. I'll take some photos in the dark of the night for final comparison, and let the community decide on which mod is right for them.

I haven't been defending my mod. I have been stating my opinion on both and you can obviously tell which one is brighter if you actually look at the picture and see how much more light is being produced in areas the other LED pictures are not. FACT is no LED will produce the same amount of solid spread out light as a CCL light can. Every post I have made I even said depends how much light you want the LEDs would work well and are easier to install. You on the other hand everytime I mention the CCL light come in here being defensive on your LEDs, in every post. I am not the only one that has noticed this either.

Dude, I'm not gonna argue this anymore. It's not obvious to me which is brighter. Your pics are better, and taken in the dark...

I spent a lot of time and money testing LEDs, all I'm trying to do is spread the word that these LEDs are great for the application... and are certainly "equivalent" in light output to the CC mod.

Excuse me for "coming up in here" being informative, and showing an option to your work, which you obviosly have a vested commitment to.

I wouldn't mind having a Xenon light in the back. Especially if I could point it at people behind me who can't seem to figure out how to aim their headlights so they don't blind me from behind.

Oh yeah, the last thing I want is more light on my license plate when busting through a toll gate at night...

I had ccl on my TL and the new high-power led in my g. Both looks nice. Both cover the whole plate w/ light. LED looks more directional, while CCL looks more even. They both provide just about the same light.

Who cares.. LoL, I vote for the LED ne wayz, just because of simplicity of install, and even if the CCL tubes are more light output, its not by that much and the LED light output is more than sufficient for this application.

With that being said I defenitely would like to look at night time pics.

Thank You Kennedy, I was going to do the CC tubes, but seeing those night time pics I'm sold. Now how about that LED Flickering issue people have reported in the past? Is that still a concern? And Logevity?

Not with these. The flickering was due to teh design of the 9 and 12 led cluster leds folkswere using from tec-toys. They had a resistor suspended in a plastic casing which was prone to corrosion and breakage.

These are solid units, not subject to the vibration issues of the older, less robust design. I've had the "zero's" in for 6 months... and these are just beefed up versions of those.

I've been rolling with 6led blues for a few months now...so far so good. Only one 'cop' said anything about it. I was waiting to pick up somebody at a metro K&R and this metro cop pulls up next to me and says thats illegal, so I said "ORLY Mr Metro cop? what you going to do about it? NOTHING hahahaha"

..ok i didnt, i just feigned ignorance, but thats what I was thinking. rly.

I do kinda stick out on a highway at night though...
