HID Bulb Change

I was just wondering if there was a way to change the headlight bulbs on a 06 TL without removing the front bumper. I have a set of 6000K bulbs that I would ike to put in

Nope. You need to remove the bumper and the housing assembly. Then you can pull the bulb cover and get to it. Check out 3G garage to see exact steps to do this.

he is asking about changing the bulbs, not the housings

so to answer your question, no you do not need to remove the bumper for bulb replacement

Gordon,

You don't need to remove the bumper at all. You just need to loosen the front portion of the wheelwell covers (turn the wheel away fromthe side you are working on to give you more space) and you'll be able to reach in there to get to the headlight bulb covers. Hardest part is loosening the torx screw that secures each hid bulb cover. You don't even need a torx screw...just use a small flathead that fits within the "star" pattern and that will get it loose enough to unscrew by hand. I'll try to post my 8000k bulb install pics soon so you know what I'm talking about.

Sorry, I meant to post this link, which also says you need to remove the bumper. If soneone can show how to do it without removing the bumper, that would be great.

Once mine burns out, I am sure to change up to 6000k's. Make sure you take lots of before and after pics to see the difference between oem 4300k compare to 6000k.

just because something says to remove the bumper doesn't mean you need to

the worst part is removing the saftey cover, once that is off it takes less than a minute to swap out bulbs

OH yeah...remember whoever is going to do this mod to take pictures (not only before and after, but left to right stock vs aftermarket) for a comparison so other members know what color the bulbs come out compared to the stock 4300's. Hope my DIY helps...

Im not sure how much diff. the projector makes the output color, but here is my 4300k (stock) to 6000k (Phillips Ulitinon) upgrade. The upgraded pic is a bit over exposed, so the differences are magnified. As far as light output, the untrained eye will not see any less light, just a color change.

Stock

Upgraded.

It changes the color enough to set you apart from every other 3rd gen TL (or any other car with HID's) out there but not enough to get you pulled over. The look of 6000ks looks SO much nicer than stock.

Under good weather condition, 6000k usually provide a better visibility because all road signs or anything white reflect brighter. However when it's raining, you can't see a thing with the 6000k.

Im assuming you dont have them. The light color is not enough to drastically change rain driving, this is a common assumption.

I notice NO different situtions with mine.

agreed, i have 9006 6000K foglamps and the light output of them is greater than the stock d2s's. I have a set of d2s's in 6000k, but i did the color mod to the projector and i feel like i have enough color from them now, and still retain the 4300K illumination qualities.

NOTE: i have an 06 TL and when i did my projector mod, the screw is NOT a standard torx bolt. It had a post in the center and would require a special tip to easily remove the screw. I had to carefully work at it with a small flathead screwdriver and would NEVER have been able to do this through the fenderliner.
Maybe this was changed for 06, but it would have been nearly impossible for me to remover the rear headligh cap/cover.
