Help the new guy
Hey all,
Just looking for some helpful advice. Im here looking to research the TL-s before I decide if I should buy. I originally owned two hondas (still own the acura). I built both cars to perform and last. My first car was a 95 civic coupe with an h22 dohc swap. I sold that and bought a 2003 Rsx-s that has over $4k invested. Very comfortable and reliable car that can haul ass if necessary. To sum things up, I have a 3yr old daughter, a wife, and just bought a home. I love the car, but I think I need something more spacious. So a sedan is a must. Winter around here blows, so my concern is the car getting through winter smoothly (with winter tires of course). Do all type-s TLs come equipped with LSD or is that just the 6spd? Any things in particular I should look out for when shopping for a TL-s?
just looking for some comments and suggestions from people who actually own what im looking into. Appreciate it
Thanks!

I know all the 6 speeds have the LSD regardless of base model or type-s. The auto type-s might have a LSD but I'm not sure. I haven't driven the car in the snow but the lsd puts the power down very well.
6MT's often have the issue with third gear either popping out or not going into gear in the first place. Find a nice type-S that's out of warranty with the problem and use it to negotiate the price way down. The problem is fixed with $40 worth of GM Synchromesh Friction Modified fluid. Look it up on acurazine. I'm a happy convert.

Dc5,
I've used my 6MT in all kinds of snow conditions over 7 winters. Bottomline is with the proper tires, the car will push snow with the front bumper. (Yes, I've reluctantly done it.) Two good snow tires, with engine weight over them no less, pulling for you "will get her dun". IIRC, many 4WD trucks really only have one wheel on the front and one on the back doing the pulling when in so-called 4WD.

Yup, you'll be fine. In extreme conditions like iced-up roads, I start in 2nd gear with a few extra revs. Gets going just fine.
However if you put a good set of snow tires on it like Blizzaks or Nokians, you won't have to worry about going through a bit of snow.
The TL-S is a great car and you shouldn't have any issues with it! Just look around and make sure that all the body panels have the VIN on them! As far as things to look out for, make sure the power-steering recall and the wiper recall has been performed. If not, take it in to a dealer near you and get it done ASAP!
Also just as a quick note, if you are looking at a 6MT, the clutch in our cars has a Check valve and is self adjusting so you won't be able to "dump the clutch" and as well won't be able to tell if the clutch is good or worn down!
DC,
Northeastern winters have only been a problem for me when my tires were wearing down. If you get snow rubber, i bet you'd be fine. I've been through 7 winters, including 4 in Canada without problems.

I'd keep a set of winter tires on my stock rims and summer tires on the future BBS rims lol But if you and all the others can get by, I should be able to as well. Thanks
i recently purchased 07 type s with 6mt and love it. however live in desert and even if it does snow (sometimes) I don't adjust the tires in any other car I have owned which also included a 92 hatch with H2B swap putting over 200 whp down.
If you can swing the money then a type s 6 mt 3gen is the only way to go IMO.
Good luck finding one. I flew to NY and drove 2700 miles home to get the one I wanted.
