Help me pick new Brakes for my 2007 TL-S

OK guys its time I get the brakes done, as I posted last week the dealer told me they were on there way out. Well with this cold in Chicago we are having they arn't working to well, I've had to drive my Camry for the last few days. I'm looking for suggestions and ideas on brake replacement. Should I keep the brembo's? use something else? I want something quiet and soft like theses have been but, less dusty and last longer.

get the rotora pads.
I got them installed about 2 weeks ago and brake dust is barely visible compared to the stock pads.
YOu can get them from Excelerate.

how expensive are the rotora pads when compared to the brembo pads??? ... i will be needing new pads soon too, so im just wondering

yes the rotoras are pretty quiet..

AS far as pricing, I got quoted around $200 for oem pads, and for the rotoras I only paid about $100.

I had about 14k when I replaced them.

Already worn out? What do you guys do on the weekends? Run rally races? Mine is a 2004 AT with the lower end brakes but I'm @ 45K and my dealer says I still have about 60% of my pads left. I don't baby the car at all but also can't imaging what it would take to burn up a set of brakes in under 20K miles.

whoa...you're in a 2007 S and you're already getting new brakes? I'd expect warranty to take care of that if they're "on their way out". I have an 05 TL and I'm still on the same brakes that came on the car. Squeaks, etc were taken care of under warranty. Make sure warranty takes care of that...you shouldn't be in the market for a while for new brakes...good luck! Stick w/ the Brembos IMO.

Damn, that is nuts. I'm at 53K miles on my 06 w/stock rotors and pads and I'm fine... Only thing I've replaced are my stock tires! You guys must brake hard!!!

Exactly! When I took off my original pads at 40k Marcus at Heeltoe told me I still had 60% left on them. I drive fast and hard too. Maybe Acura started cheaping out on breaks

I have ROTORA slotted or drilled/slotted discs with ROTORA ceramic pads or I have STOPTECH slotted or drilled/slotted discs with STOPTECH Posi-quiete ceramic pads. I'm surprised no one likes EBC no more, I'm definitely going back to them once stock wears out. They don't last as much as the other pads, but you will stop on a dime, but you should install slotted rotoras for a perfect combo, or EBC will chew up your stock rotors fast.

Me... I'm at 6k no need for brake worries for a while... But seriously to do just pads is lame... When my breaks go... Slotted & drilled rotors and pads is a must

'07 Type -S has the soft compound Brembo pads. They do indeed wear much much faster. My brakes went out at 26k. I had a 05 as well & those pads do indeed provide longer life. I replaced my original pads with factory issue.

Ya know guys I really think Acura has alot of nerve, when you think about it...they build a car like the type s and expect you to drive it like a grandma so your brakes will last, when I took my car in and they told me about the brakes my advisor told me "well you must drive hard and fast" well hello azzhole, not every chance i get but the car was designed that way to be driven hard once in a while, not pussy whip it around town.

That's what i was gonna say.. That coupled w/ living in an urban environment will wear your pads out read quick..

softer compounds wear faster because there is a tradeoff in friction-heat-stopping power
They stop really well for a while. Ask bmw owners about their brakes jobs!
Hard compounds eat rotors- its all in the mated design these days.

You dont need cross drilled but slotted pays you back on your investment.
Rotora is making a set with their own ceramic pads
Ceramic dust less but doesnt stop as hardcore as others

With the brembos do you have to replace the rotors with the first pad replacement or can they last for two sets of pads?

Thoses are street racing pads, if you don't see brake dust yet you will soon, they are also going to squeek once they brake in.

If there is nothing wrong with the rotors its not going to hurt anything to keep on using them.

Less dust is great, but how do they perform compared to the stock brake compound the car was designed for.

Is the rotora a more aggressive pad or less ... basically what I am getting at is I dont want to loose performance to save on dust.

I see no reason why you should be considering replacing your brakes at your own expense when 1. You have a 2007, and 2. They are Brembo's

If the calipers are indeed defective then the dealer should replace them under warranty, if the pads just need to be replaced then I would just go ahead and replace them with a less dusty pad.

brembo rotors get cut once and replaced on the 3rd set of pads you put on.... but that all depends on how much lead you got in ur foot.

ONTHEJOB i totally feel on the dust performance thing..... I went through 3 diff companies that produced close to "no dust pads" but from 60-90mph performance lagged and anything from 90-140 plain and simple sucked more ass than a porn star. as soon as the aftermarket pads got hot they stop working properly. the brembos seem to get hot n work more.

Brake rotors and pads are NOT warranty items unless they (or some part of the system) are defective. Wear from use is not a defect.

Do these pads *wear* quickly? By many, many reports - yes. Does everybody and their brother complain about "excessive" brake dust - big YES!

Where do you think the dust comes from? Does this now begin to sound like "normal" wear?

Is it "acceptable" or "right" or "proper" - ;BUT it *does* seem to be the way the system was designed.



When it comes time to change, I'll be looking at Slotted Rotors and "matching" pads (i.e. same vendor/recomended). Don't know what that is yet as I should have at ~ a year before I worry about it.

Current thoughts are Rotora or Racing Brake.

im at 8200 miles and my breaks are dead.. They scream when I break well yelp a little bit.. Does warranty covers brakes this early?

Ive had a few hard brakes... I doubt they could have worn em out this fast... ?

Centric Posi-Quiet semi-metallic pads. Resurface the rotors if they are still serviceable; this will help the pads seat faster and reduce the occurrence of brake noise.

Also bed-in the brake pads. From my experience, proper pad bed-in will significantly improve braking performance, reduce squealing, and reduce the occurrence of pedal pulsation. This is the only set of bed-in procedures that have worked for me: http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm

im at about ~14,500-15000k miles on my 07 6MT TLS. Brake pads are worn completely down and i called acura asking how much it would cost to service only the front brake pads. They told me it would cost about 450 dollars. I called my mechanic, he said he would get the stock front pads for about 190, and $80 for installation. I'm not good with cars, so i'm letting him handle it. Is 270 worth it or am i getting ripped off? How much do stock Brembo pads cost?

Its been 1500 miles now since I have replaced the Brake pads on my 07 TL-S and I couldn't be more pleased! The Brakes are quiet, strong and the best part is my alloys are hardly dirty anymore. It takes few 100 miles to brake them in but I think they are a great pad for the TL-S's every day driver that does a mix of normal to hard driving. Expect about $100-120 for front and rear together.

Brand: Centric posiquiet extended wear. Sorry the part numbers were not on my invoice.

Glad to hear. I'm surprised that you chose the 106 series extended wear over the 104 series semi-metallic. I heard that you give up a lot of brake performance with the Extended Wears compared to the semi-metallic.

Did you resurface the rotors when you installed them? Did you follow the bed-in method that I posted earlier? That seems to help a lot as far as improving performance.

For anyone who is thinking about buying Centric pads, RockAuto also sells them, often for a lower price than the other site.

I had my guy that works on my Camry do the brakes, he said the rotors are fine. and as far as stopping performance, its really about the same...I want theses brakes to last due to the fact the old ones went out at around 20K I don't want to do brakes again and I only have a year left on my lease. But I'm sure I will probably have to do tires soon ughhh "rolls eyes"
