HELP - Car Won't start - Electrical Problem?

Hi All,

I have an 05 with about 4,500 miles on it. About a month ago I went to crank my car over and it was completely dead (no lights or any sign of life). I opened the door and closed it again and the car started fine. I thought maybe there was somekind of connection in the door and that it just needed to closed tight. It has happened several times since but has always started until this morning. I tried the door thing and the radio went on the dash lit up but then went dead when I turned the key the rest of the way. No electrical signal at that point. Opened and closed the door again and had them same result. Also, a few times when this has happened I had to re-enter the radio and navi codes.

Hopefully it will start tomorrow so I can drive it the dealership. I really don't want to have it towed unless triple A or Acura roadside assistance will send a flat bed.

Any insight you can give would greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Frank

Either way the dealer will most likely need to see your car. I agree with your "flatbed" comment and concern... First thing I would do is check the battery terminals/connections. Make sure they're tight. Other thing is you may have a serious glitch in the security/system.

Let us know what turns up...

Good luck

^ NFLblitze1 is probably right.

I've been around the forum for a while and I've seen this issue come up numerous times. You should check your car battery. All it needs is a little juice. Have you been driving your TL regularly? I'm sure more are knowledgeable on this issue, but I'm almost 100% positive NFLblitze1 is right.

Yah. Even if you are getting lighting, electronics, and all the other toys, that is drawing at the absolute most 10 amps, but most likely not even that. Starting your car requires 5-6 hundred. Also, when it first started doing this wierd thing, why didnt you bring it in?

Thanks for the advice. I am going to go out and check the battery cables and if that doesn't work have AAA come and try a jump start.

I didn't go to the dealer right away because I thought it was something that I would have checked at my first service and I figured the car would work fine when I grought it in. I probably should have bounced off of you guys alot sooner. Oh well, I'll let you know how I make out.

You guys were 100% correct. I checked the battery cables and the black cable was completely loose and barely on the top of the post. After tightning it down the car started right up. Hopefully this is the last time I will have to enter the codes for the radio and the navi.

Thanks again for the help. You saved me alot of aggravation getting the car towed, ect.

Sincerely,

Another satisfied customer
