Help with Audi-style LED strips for headlights

So i got a new CBP 07 TL-type s today, the mod that i have seen that i really want to do is the LED strips for headlights, like the audi A4

i have a few questions

im a complete noob in electrics and lighting, so how hard would it be for me to install these successfully? also, are the ones on ebay that are like 20-40 dollars probably sufficient for the purpose? is there anywhere with a good tutorial for a complete beginner? what is the risk i will mess something up and screw up my car?

etc...

thanks!

It's going to run about $50 to get the strips, you can use the ones at Oznium, I have found them to work well. You'll need to bake open the headlights in order to properly install them, which is not too bad. I don't know if there is a tutorial on here, but I am going to write one up when I do mine. Risk is not bad if you take your time and pay attention to detail. Like I said, I have not done them on mine, but some pics of other cars I have done them on...

thanks for the insights, apparently there is a version of the strip that is thin enough to put between the little slit of the headlight and the bumper, so that you dont even have to take the headlights off, you attach in tbhe little slit, any opinions?

If you wanna do it, do it right! NO cheap "put between the little slit of the headlight and the bumper" bs. There is no room between the bumper and the headlight anyways.

I used E-bay ones and it works fine so far. If you dont feel comfortable doing it yourself (baking the headlight assembly to open) get JnC to do it

I bought those said LED strips! They are side emitting LED's-so they shine from the thin side. They will be installed this weekend-I can't wait. We're putting them inside the headlight casing because we're clearing the headlights in the process.

I'll have pictures after Sunday.

I just got the brand new side-emitting LED's from Oznium. I'm going over to Buda's house to do this. He's the master-I'll be assisting, and taking pictures!

Buy an Audi before you vandalize your TL! lol j/k

Like ABP_04TL said, if there is a problem down the road, everything has to be done over. I personally don't find them very attractive, on an Audi or otherwise.

Good luck!

always imitated, never duplicated.

There have been some valiant efforts by a lot of members, but i have yet to see it resemble to larger spaced Audi LED lights.....

bforbrians is probably the best one yet, because he wrapped every other LED, to get that more "spaced" out appeal

These LED Strips can be cut into smaller sizes. Unused strip can be soldered and use elsewhere as well.

^^^ Very true. Plus, the new side emitting LED's that I bought already have the spaced out look/effect, which is similar to the Audi style that Blackura was talking about.

The biggest shortcoming of trying to replicate the Audi's is that the LEDs have a reflective housing that properly aim and point the emittance...

If you want to do the best Audi style LEDs hit up bforbrian. His car is definitely the best attempt at this mod yet. Then there is this. Better than 1 continous closely spaced strip IMO

You need to tap the wires from your LEDs onto any wires from the parking lights.

Like on your signal. Tap the postive and the negative wire. Then you should be ok.

On your signal there are 3 wires use 2 out of the 3 wire

OK guys. My headlights are done. I've got pictures but I'm too tired to post them right now-it's almost 11pm. I'll try to get them up tomorrow night. The headlights look AWESOME and very classy. Buda and I hooked them up so they'll always be on. That means they'll be on with both the Daytime Running Lights and the headlights too. We hooked them up to the windshield wipers. If I remember correctly, Brian hooked up his lights up with a switch, so it's on a separate circuit.

I always planned on putting them inside the headlights, which is what we did. I looked at trying to slide them in between the headlight and bumper. I found that there definitely is NOT enough room for this.

T3H, here's a couple of pictures for you!

Name: 100_4201.jpg

We baked the headlights, pulled them apart, inserted the side emitting LED strips and then closed up the headlights and baked them again to seal them.

I'll start a new post and give you better details tomorrow. But this is a very involved process. Definitely not for the faint of heart.

This shot is of the head lights back in the Type S. They are ready to be wired into the system.
