HELP 05 to 07 TYPE S H/light conversion!!!
Does anyone seem to know the easiest way to put in 07 Type S headlights in a 05 TL, I have both Headlights already and need some advice, I would like to use my existing ballasts , I know the ballast mounting is a bit diffrent for the Type s , any ideas????. anyone whos done it have any advice thanks so much
not sure about the ballast issues because i have an 06 and put in 07-08 TLS headlights but you will need the bulb holders from an 07 Headlight. You can get them from any Acura dealer. They are only like $5 a piece. They use different bulbs and your old bulb holder won't fit. it's too small. When you get the new bulb holders you will need some small female slide connectors and some 18 gauge wire. You will have to use wire taps to tap into your existing headlight wires and then connect them to the empty posts on the Type S turnsignal bulb holder. The only other way would be to find a wrecked type S and cut the bulb holder harness off to have exposed wires to work with. I did the described way above. Worked great. I even installed the switchback led's while I was doing it and put the resistors up front to make the turn signals blink properly.
good luck
good luck

2005 Headlight
Low beam is D2S Osram
Ballast is Mitsubishi (larger version found in 04-05 headlights)
High beam is built in the projector
Fog light bulb is 9006 and foglight itself is incorporated in the headlight
turn signal bulb is 7443
2007-08 Type S headlight
Low beam bulb is the same Osram D2S
High beam is incorporated in the projector as the 05 headlight
Fog light is separate
DRL uses 9006 bulb
Turn signal is 1157 bulb which is different than the 7443 bulb.
Ballast is the smaller version of the Mitsubishi
For a complete swap you will need to change the ballast, but the connector is the same in both so ballast connection wouldnt be a problem. You will loose your foglight, a solution is to install a foglight in the bumper somewhere, you can make the DRL opening your fog and alter the 9006 female connector from the factory to work with the DRL 9005 bulb but once on the light will be all over the place and blind the on coming traffic since the 07-08 DRL bulb only is lit at 50% of total 55 watts. Also the turn signal would need to be modified to be able to work with 1157 bulbs, you would need one blank male 7443 socket and one female 1157 socket and a set of 1157 bulbs.
