heating VS a/c

I just noticed that when I am heating the car in the morning a/c is kicked in by default??! Not sure if its an accurate assessment, but when I press on the ac button it says "ac off" does this means that it was on??? It would be pretty inconvenient to set the heater and always have to press the ac button to deactivate the cool air............I use the heater at least 5 months a year, dont want to be spending freon needlessly!

I wonder exactly the same thing. The other night it was 50 degrees out, and I popped on the heater to 65 degrees, and I hit the A\C button for some reason, and it said "AC Off". I doubt the AC was on, but it also made me curious.

I always have "a/c on" when turning up the heat (like 78). I always thought air conditioning meant both hot and cold, not just cold. btw it blows hot air.

I've found that when the a/c is not on, the car will fog up when turning up the heat.

You need to remember that ac takes moisture out of the air not just make the car cold. Usually it will be on when when the mode is in recirculation. It is always on when the defroster mode is set. The reason why they do this is so the moisture in the passsenger compartment doesnt stick to the cold windsheild aka fogging the window up

Air conditioning will dehumidify ... lessen moisture in the climate system.

True, but this also means your car uses more gas.

.1 MPG is really going to make a difference over driving safely, I doubt it. What would rather have, foggy windows that take 5-10 minutes to clear up, so you have to idle and let the defrosters work, or use .1 MPG more and drive right away?

car is smart enough to enable the defrost based upon outside temps. leave it alone it will turn off after a predetermined amt of time.

The manual clearly states that the AC will activate to remove moisture with both the heat and defrog / frost system.

Agree with snax, especially with defrost used I believe AC is the default to remove interior moisture quicker.
