Heater core replacement

Hello,
The previous owner of my '08 TL used so much radiator stop leak that it clogged my radiator causing over heating. I am sure my heater core is completely clogged and I don't want to try and flush it just replace it. Is heater core replacement a "do it yourself" job or? Can it be done without removing the dash?

https://acurazine.com/forums/third-g...-747304/page2/ this DIY might get you closest to a heater core DIY but I believe if you actually want to replace it, you'll have to tear out your dash. Hopefully you should be okay just flushing it; i'd probably try that before tearing out the dash but those who've actually taken apart their heater core can chime in.

use compressor air to blow out the blockage in your heater core, trust me you will have to tear the dash apart to replace the heater core.

Heater core replacement.

I have a leaking heater core and I was told 8.5 hrs labor. No way to do it without removal of dash. It's going to cost around $800 for me to have done. Flush it out if you can. Thanks.

Not a cheap job by any means!

Paul, our star master mechanic here in Nawth Jerzy, recommends staying away from all that stop leak crap for this very reason. He's seen many a heater core go bad as a result, resulting in nice expensive work for him!

That's why I'm replacing my radiator next week which has a very very slow leak before I get stuck. I'd pay to have my car towed before I'd put Stop Leak in it, a far lower cost option to Stop Leak!
