Headlamp help

Hey everyone,
I have a 2004 acura tl base w/navi. I have stock head lamps and head lights. I'm wanting to change my fog lights to match the color of my low beams. I have checked on the sizes and found that the low beam bulb is an HID-D2S and the fog bulb number is a 9006. Do i need to change my fogs to HID in order to match them with my low beams or will a xenon bulb work?
Thanks in advance!

It'll be hard to match without the fogs being HID as well.

If do this, is removal of the front bumper necessary? I'm new to modding my car, and I dont have the greatest confidence in my skills yet

Nope. You should have plenty of access to the fogs without having to move anything. You may have to move the battery out of the way but that's it.

OEM D2S output 43/4200k I believe. And after time, that goes down a little bit. If you really want them to match, I would buy new low beam bulbs as well. And get the same kind. So 5/6k morimotos for the low beams, 5/6k morimoto HID for the fogs.

For the lows will i need to purchase a new ballast or just the bulb? It looks like there is a ballast under the head lamp; is this correct?

The lows "mains" just need a bulb. The fogs will be a complete system.

Morimotos from TRS will cost ya $45 for low beam bulbs. Their 9006 HID kits for the fogs are like $150 I think. DDM has kits for $30 but shipping is a pain.

I would recommend 5k color temp but a lot of people like the blueish 6k.

Yea, I just found it all on TRS. Price doesnt seem too bad. In order to change it all i will need to remove the bumper wont I? It looks like it will be a challenge to change the mains without removing it.

And aren't our mains one bulb for the high and low? This may sound dumb, but i will still have high beams correct?

I have Morimoto 6000k bulbs for my headlights and I recently added lower fogs with a 6000k kit from HIDextra.com and they match very well. I was pleasantly surprised.

You will want to remove the bumper to get to the D2S bulbs

Sigh...Chad...

Our headlight is a bi-xenon, meaning it is our low and high beam.

The fog light NEXT to the headlights is simply the fog light.

Don't believe me? Have someone turn the high beams on while you watch the headlights. The fog light next to the headlight will TURN OFF when the high beams comes on.

Thats what I thought. So the main beam bulb i need to buy is a HIB bi-xenon bulb?

Any D2S bulb will do.

What he just linked will work (also what I am using).

If you'd like some higher end options, there is CBI or SVS bulbs, upwards of $180 for a pair.

If you want to save some money, stick with Morimoto.

The SVS and CBI bulbs are slightly higher in lumens...but nothing to argue over.

^Yes...or save the $120 and buy the lesser product from DDM. Don't get me wrong, tons of people rock the DDMs, but if I had to do it over again I would go with a higher quality unit like the one you linked.

Yes and yes.

Although instead of spending $150 for the kit, I recommend checking out hidextra.com or ddmtuning.com

Much cheaper and many, many members are using them.

Myself included.

Morimotos (in the link he proved) up in the headlights

And hidextra kit in my lower fogs, I think they match very well.

Just...instead of my lower fog lights...you'd have them in the fog next to the headlight.

1.) Great looking car!
2.) They match well but I believe when I do it I'm gunna drop the $200 and go morimoto all the way.
Thanks for all the help!! Hopefully gunna build up the nerve to take my bumper off sooner than later! Still nervous about that. Wish me luck!

Thank you

No problem, I have no doubt it's a great kit.

Here is a thread to a DIY Video to take the bumper off, it's very easy.

Good luck! And to add to this very helpful thread, having bi-xenons there's a shutter that actually moves when you flip on the highbeams letting more light out (and up). Turn off your highbeams and the shutter goes back in place blocking some of the intense light (so you don't blind people).

If they go by bulbs, you'd need a 9006 for fogs, D2S for headlight.

That's why I suggested hidextra.com, they sort by bulbs instead of fighting with the site and having them say something doesn't fit.

^Those are also a good choice. About double the cost of the morimotos but they are the newer revision of the OEM bulbs.
