Heading to dealer for Type S today

So there is a Type S for sale and I am going to be heading to the Stealership today. Any tips for negotiating would be appreciated. This puppy is CLEAN! Meets all my criteria as far as color inside/outside. I know that Type S suffer from interior two done designs not being the best. Any way just wanted to put that out there. Wish me Luck!!!!!!

Thanks. I know my limits and constraints and worst case scenario I will be leaving empty handed.

Absolutely. The car is practically brand new. Going to try to use the fact they have been sitting on it for 2 months to my advantage.

be prepared to walk away if you don't like what you hear.

i did, and they called me 10 mins later to see if i was still in the area because they "may be able to work something out for me"

i drove back, and the salesman n i were able to agree on the OTD price.

act like you're not head over heels excited about the vehicle, act like it's not a big deal if you get it or not. salesmen will play off your emotions so try n keep your cool.

good luck to you.

Yep that's sound advice guys. It's a 6 spd in gold-ish color with 17k on the odometer. Sticker price is 29k which is about 1500 above fair market value.

Check and see if you can find that car on line.

When i bought my TL the sticker price was $29,699 maked down to $26,699 but i found on on the dealerships website for $23,700 for that exact car. I talked the guy down to $22,500 and left with the biggest grin 3 years later my mouth still hurts.

Damn man good for you. I fear I won't be this lucky. Already looked on their site and online and the price is what it is.

^is the price online an "internet special"?

if so, there are still ways to haggle. they will tell you that there is just no way they can go that low, blah blah blah...but they can.

also, what are your means of payment? are you already approved? down payment? credit history? credit union/blank check?

^these are also deciding factors as to how much leverage you have when buying a car.

Solid credit have $3500 to play. Not going to tell them that when I go. No issues getting financed. think I will make them a reasonable OTD offer.

It's been said but I'll repeat for emphasis: be ready to walk out if the dealership won't haggle.

I bought my type-s 2 years ago. The first day I went to see the car the dealership rejected my offer so I gave the salesmen my business card and left. I waited a few days, came back, and made my offer again...the dealer still wouldn't haggle so I left again. Few days later I made my third attempt and finally got the price I wanted. So be patient and stand your ground! Good luck.

Whats wrong with the interiors of the Type S? I think both combinations looks great. Just curious what the OP means by "suffers" from the two tone interior design.

yea caught that too...

is this a big name dealership or some used car dealer? VIN check should reveal what it is.

i think haggling is fun. I did with the private seller I bought my TL from. Maybe it's cause i'm a psych major. I ended up getting my TL for 570 below kbb good value (for good reason).

Take your time. They'll come around. I got my 08 TLS from a private seller but got him down to 25,500 and the car only had 10,800 miles. If they want some cash they'll make the sale happen.

Best time to buy is at the end of the month, which is almost here. Sellers need to meet quotas for the month. Try it again this weekend.

In my limited experience it comes down to how you're buying the car and if anyone else is interested.

When I bought my TL, I had little negotiating room because I had to buy it CPO in order to get the warranty and to get Honda Finance to give me the lowest rate.

In the past, when I bought my Volvo and financed it privately, I had a lot more room to negotiate because the dealership didn't really have to do anything to prep the car so I simply made my offer and waited. Within a week I called back and they came down to my price after a bit of conversation. I agreed to not needing the car prepped or detailed and I just did that myself the weekend I picked it up.

def be prepared to walk a couple times. i had a fun experience with the local BMW dealer in my area. they had a 07 tl w navi marked at $16900 with 51 k miles. I wasnt able to get the price down and they offered me 7000 for my car (trade). long story made short i signed a bill of sale and put a deposit down (500) with out the trade and the 2nd time i was their. i went back 2 business days afterward and gave them two options since they got their price and didnt give me any breaks on the price:

1. work with me on my trade and/ or lower the price
2. give me my deposit back

i choose door two, and afterward they had some choice words for me like such as "your car needs alot of work and money", " your just wasted our time", " our car has alot of value" .

i said hey that just the cost of doing business and said i would still consider the car if they would work with me, which they DID NOT. they countered saying the car would be sold in the next couple days. my wife called them to complain , for some reason i dont know, and they told her the car went to auction

Man that two tone ebony tan is just ..... well....... not cool.

That aside I pulled the trigger on this baby here:

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

Dealer gave me the payment I wanted and even discounted the 5 yr mechanical coverage add on. I know it's only got 17000 miles on it but I have never owned a car of this caliper. This baby is LOADED!!!!!! However, I am experiencing difficulties with 3rd gear.....(sigh). May take it to Acura this weekend to have them look at it. Over all I have to say I hope they get their shit together with the transmissions seems like 01 - 03 you were screwed if you got an auto and now on the 3rd gen TL's you're screwed if you want manual....... other than that though I can't describe how happy I am with this vehicle.

On a major plus note, I did not go upside down on my 06 that I traded in. Funny how they up your trade value once they know you mean business and have cash on hand. They ended up giving my 300 less than what I paid for it. Oh YEAH!!!!

congratulations.

we have a fix for that 3rd gear prob. its called switching out your MTF fluid with GM syncromesh Fluid Friction Modified.
It completely got rid of my 3rd gear problems.
Others will agree.

On a side note I sold my CL to my friend for 3k. I was going to just drop a tranny in her but he offered to buy it as is and I said 3 since were pals. He is going to get a new tranny for it and we are going to put it in around June.

It did for my 06 that had 60k. My question is should a car of this magnitude be having any type of issues shifting with such low mileage?

I believe that its an inherit flaw.
you said your 06 had the grinding or pop out.
Civic SI's,s2k's CL-s's all had this grind.

One member recently brought his car to get the 3rd gear TSB. His car came back in NON-working order.

Yeah my tranny died in the CL. I was lucky as hell though, it was 1000 miles before the extended warranty was up, so the dealership replaced it for free. After that I was scared that it would happen again so I got the TL. Honestly I shouldn't have gotten rid of it, I miss it like crazy, but the TL is a great car.

$3k is a good deal. I've been considering returning the TL to stock, picking up an ABP CL-S like my old one, and making that the toy, but it's just not worth it as of right now. Maybe later in life

Never look back bro. I loved the CL so much becasue me and my buddy did all the work on it up until the timing belt/waterpump MAINT. Sure as shit not even 3 months later, CLUNK. I was at 113,000. SOL on the warranty.

Did he get his $$$$$ back for the car? Or did he file a suit and tell them he would see them in claims court? Damn that is a tough beat. I was thinking of going this route with GM synchro mesh again but damn..... You just hate to see it in such a great car with low miles.
