Hajimemashite (nice to meet you)

Wussup, new here and love the site. Kinda hard navigating but not used to it yet.

Fell in love the the 3rd gen TL Type S while walking to class while in boot camp and knew I would buy one if I was ever stationed states side.

A little about myself, born and raised in Japan (not Japanese, just Navy brat) now in the Navy stationed in Japan lol.. but getting stationed in San Diego soon.

Past rides:
'93 CB9 Accord Wagon
'97 CF2 Accord Wagon SiR
'01 Odyssey

yeah I love accord wagon. I would get another on but I know they don't sell the CF2 in the states soo..

Anyhoo, Can't wait to move to the US just so I can buy my first TL!

Welcome! Best of looking searching for a TL whenever you make it back over here.

Any pictures of your previous rides? I'm a huge wagon fan and I would love to see the Accords.

Thank you for your service

Welcome to the site!

That Accord Wagon is clean. Looked good! Sorry you had to see it go.

The Type-S is a dream car though. She's perfect in just about every way. Hope to see you rocking one soon.

Thanks for your service!

Kon'nichiwa! Welcome, this is a great site with great guys. My wife is from Japan (Matsuyama, Ehime), we visit there often to see family and friends. I have been all over Japan and love it. There cars and the way they mod is just cool and different. Sayonara!

Domo domo m(_ _)m (thanks)
Glad I found this site. I have soo many questions on what I need to look for buying a used TL but just gotta search the site for info, definitely will ask when I can't find answers.
I tell you what though, I'm seeing that cars in the states are waaaaaaay...ok maybe not that much but more expensive than here in Japan and with the miles they have with the cost is unheard of here and I've been here a long time. Is 10K normal for a TL with 100K miles? With that price and lower miles I can pick up a GTR...
blah.. I'm still gonna get my TL, maybe the type S if I can find one for a good price.

I dont know about normal but close. 04-05 maybe 06s have cracked dash problems. there is a thread somewhere about tl maintenance do a little search. The used cars in Japan are way cheap. I think the japanese prefer new cars more and the used market is flooded thus bringing the costs down, i dunno for sure. I think they have alot cool cars, but it is so expensive tax wise to own big cars thats why you see alot of small cars and mopeds and bikes. It is a cool place none the less.

thanks for the info. Yeah, registering a car here is pretty expensive but hella alot more if you are registering it without US military plates. It's about the engine size and vehicle size. I would not have sold my Oddy while I was away but registering in would been too much so we kept our Wagon-R (small car)

The only gtr you'll find here in the states is the 2008+ R35.... Which will be nowhere near $10k lol more like 40k for the oldest 2008 model with high miles

well over in Japan car like the GT-R, Silvia mean you paying more gas/insurance/tax therefore the used car demand is low and the price take a huge dip. Remember not all people on the globe enjoy our gas price (well not the lowest but still lower than most part of Asia and Europe).

I was originally thinking of just the regular 7th gen Accord (TSX) then my eyes spotted the TL in boot camp lol...
the current TSX looks better than the 6th gen accord wagon but still not doing it for me. The ass is killing me, the TL I can rock bone stock and it's still sexy as hell.

Actually it is much more insidious, the government effectively FORCES people to buy new cars there. I can't remember the exact details, but you have to get an ultra expensive like $1000 inspection on your car every single year once it is 5 or 10 years old? Hence annihilating the value in "keeping" your paid-off car. It's really vicious

I don't know about getting the inspection every year if it's 5 to 10 years old. I've lived in Japan for over thirty years and owned a cars for half of that. Unless I'm missing something you have to do the inspection every two years regardless of how old or new it is and yes you are correct it is quite a bit of $$ with kanji plates.
I've had one used car with kanji plates and my in-laws had several new cars with Kanji plates. Japanese Compulsory Insurance (JCI) is what's expensive. That's their thorough inspection of the car.

US military gets a huge discount with the Y-plate. we get our inspection on base for like $40 then take the car to Yokohama for the "Japanese inspection" all they do is pop your hood and look at your vin # we don't get the same JCI treatment as the locals
Basically for military you pay for weight tax, re-registration paperwork and other taxes. Pretty sure under $500
