Jeez "pimpin- TL" you should really just buy a Maxima again cause every thread i seen you in your glorifying the Maxima and Down grading the TL.. And first of all the fastest stock Maxima produced so far is the 5.5 gen 6 speed (2002-2003) which is a driver's race against the 6 speed TL. My brother has a 2003 6 speed Maxima and it's always neck in neck when we race.

It will not kill a TL. TL 6MT and Maxima 6MT are very equal.

You say it like the Maxima is some supercar dude, get over it already.

After about a mile there comes this woman ( Idiot Bitch ) in a Nissan Maxima that I had passed earlier while she was merging, up in the right lane. I estimate she was doing around 90.

Enter in a Ford Explorer that merges on to the hwy in, you guessed it, the right lane. This woman, who had plenty of time to switch lanes and go around me on the left, decides to nearly rear end the Explorer, and cut me off. You might have been able to fit a football between our bumpers.

Needless to say, I was fuming. Laid on the horn and gave her the one finger salute. However, I feared that she may not have seen my display of anger, so I wanted to make sure she knew how I felt, up close and personal. Try as she might, she could not shake me, as I stayed glued to her bumper, and eventually got around her so that I could look her in the eyes as I told her to f**k off.

Blew by her and then she tried to keep up with me, but my ’06 TL would have none of that. I lightly pressed on the gas, and the next thing I knew, I was doing 110. I swear it felt like it was doing 70. Wow!

In no way do I condone this type of driving, and I NEVER would have done this if my son had been in the car with me. What pissed me off the most was the fact that this inbred, mouth breathing, assclown had more than enough time to properly pass me on the left and chose to cut me off instead.

Thanks for letting me vent. Really enjoy this site. Take care.

I don't understand how a maxima is faster, it has 260 hp compared to the TL's 270, and the maxima also weighs more. It does have more torque so it should feel a bit faster, but once the vtec kicks in the TL should start pulling away.

Here is undeniable proof that what I say is true:

Glad you got back at her, but this wouldnt have pissed me off that badly. Now what really ticks me off is when some dumb bitch (girl in her 30s most the time) is talking on the phone and going 10 miles below the speed limit in the far left lane during rush hour! If it were 60 year old grandmom doing this i wouldn't even care(i think everyone should always treat old with care on the road) but its some bitch talking to her boyfriend about stupid shit no one cares about... and the only person she can find to listen to her shit is this guy who just wants to get in pants.

Sorry guys, I am not biased towards the TL and refuse to believe that until you guys stop with the street racing comments and show me where the TL is faster in the 1/4 with actual numbers. Till then, enough said.

I should be the one to decide this. I own a 03 6spd Maxima for the past three years. I just bought the a 04TL Auto last weekend. I dont see how the maxima is faster than the Tl. 02-03 6spd maxima only had 255 Hp. I have both cars in my Driveway anyone want to come settle this once and for all. I am in Tampa

wtf guys.. I can't believe this thread is getting more retarded by the post.

The TL & Maxima are almost the same.. The raw numbers say the Maxima is faster stock vs. stock.. but there are so many variables from the tires to the rolling speed. You guys need to cut this back & forth bs. Bench racing is retarded.

BTW, if you go to dragtimes & look up the TL vs. Maxima or Altima 3.5.. the stock Maxima or Altima 3.5 have times in the low 14's while the stock TL is more around the high 14's.

TL FTW I dont care if Maxima is faster or not. TL has style. But i also agree that sometimes stupid drivers get the best of you but gotta be the responsible one and be content with horn and the one finger salute.Try to be safe man.

Who the fuck cares if one car or the other is half a second faster all out at the drag strip. 99.99% of the driving we do is at 7/10 or below, with an occasional burst to merge or pass someone. If you are driving on the street in a way that that extra fraction of a second means something, you are an asshat and are going to end up killing yourself or someone else.

The maxima is a fast car, but dude my I have wiped the floor with so many maxima's I can not even count. Get out of here with that family middle class wagon!! LOL.....
I got a stick tl type-s..... As for the road rage, the best thing to do was to just give her the finger and remain calm after that becasue you put your own car at risk chasing her down, to to get your feelings out. Plus you are a grown man you should know how to contol your emotions better than some teen age punk. Just a week ago a dumb lady rad a red light and smashed my brand new car, now my neck is so messed up from the whiplash that I cant do anything.. Its dangerous out there and the TL gets smashed just like any other car... Be more careful next time, as for her case what goes around comes around it wont be long before she gets pulled over or smashes into somebody trust me...

requiring 6.4 seconds to achieve 60 mph (instead of 6.0) and 15 seconds flat to cover the quarter-mile. The last Maxima took only 14.7 seconds to do the same job.

here is your magazine articles you requested. honestly, TL is classier, slicker, cleaner, and FASTER. goodness. why would anyone want a maxima for speed? get a Z for speed, or you can get a G35 or G37 for a lil more (msrp). like its not that i hate on maximas, my friend has one, its that the maxima isnt even in teh same category of comparisson with the TL. sorry to burst your bubble. luckily you made the right choice to go with a TL.

but ill admit, nissans are known to be sportier than honda.

I'm a firm believer in a car is only as fast as the person driving it. I also own a 2009 Honda Civic that I put 160 miles on daily for my commute to work. I find myself "walking" on Corvettes and Mustangs on a regular. Of course my car isn't faster, but I know where all the speed traps are, so I know when to lay on the gas and when to cruise. Your average driver will hit the gas just to let you know you didn't punk them but they normally let off when they're say 15 miles over. I simply had it in me to keep my foot on the gas longer so BOOM, I walked all over that Corvette, right?

In the OP's case, the chick was driving like a chump. She was no racer. A good racer is always first a good driver (at least that's what i believe). So i don't consider passing up anyone that drives like an idiot any true test of which car is faster (what kind of real test can be given in traffic?). This chick was obviously inexperienced in her nice car and the OP most likely "walked" on her because she was going as fast as she wanted to go. Or the TL may have gotten in front because the girl felt the OP was a bigger jerk than she was and feared for her own safety.

And stop with the car time posts and videos of races. Most of the people who make these times/videos are experienced drivers and know the cars inside out. I'd bet even money they can get into an exact duplicate of your car and walk all over you. Beating a couple of nice cars and getting some wins on the street does not make you the master of all things TL. A base TL in manual mode can walk on a Type-S if the S owner doesn't know what the heck they're doing. And i don't know anything about the Maxima's power or weight but if it's anything close to the TLs, then beating an auto Maxima with a manny is no real race either. Plus I can't call anything a true race unless both cars are fresh off the lots or have recently been thoroughly inspected. You guys that have "walked" all over Maximas and BMWs have no idea the last time they had they're oil or spark plugs changed out. You may have just smoked an 18 yr kid in a Mercedes that has the Check Engine Soon light flashing on their dash.

Like pimpin said, until someone takes a TL and a Maxima, both with the SAME TYPE OF TRANSMISSION, both in optimal working conditions TO THE TRACK, this is all BS. Too many detering factors accumulate on the street/highway.

On-topic: OP, we've ALL done what you have in the past. Notice I said PAST. Most of us outgrew this kind of behavior a long time ago. At the end of the rage, did the girl look over to you and say "I'm sorry"? No, she went on about her business as you should have.

Off-topic: I hate when the speed limit is 70 mph, I'm going 76 and can see I'm gaining on two cars in front of me going 70. Then as I get close enough to pass, the rear car jumps around and decides to go 72 to pass which it could have done way before i got there. Then when it clears the other car, it's jumps back into the right lane and gets up to 80. I see it everyday and it still pisses me off.

@cisco: well said!

Just because some magazine journalist beats the shit out of a press demonstrator all day under controlled conditions to get numbers that say x car is .3 sec faster to 60 than y car doesn't mean you're going to realize those differences on the street.

There is a special thread just for these type of rants on tickets etc

Yes we all make mistakes- the problem on this forum is many of us have finally grown up... starting around age 30 and have a different attitude towards preserving our own life

How would your kid feel losing you?

Too many people on the roads are heavily armed, on meth or whatever, and have no problem at all with ending YOUR life over a lane change arguement
Happens all the time!

There is even a popular sport on the freeways now- 2-3 `racers` set up a route and run thru traffic as fast as they can- 100+ thru the town sections of freeway- where it most dangerous- and they take lane position and expect you to brake and avoid them,,as they are the most important thing in their universe--
arent we all~

Wow. Never thought my rant would create such a stir.

For the record, I do not care if a TL can "kill" a Maxima. That was never my intent to start a debate. I mentioned in my OP that I was doing 110. I had no idea I was going so fast and when I saw that I was, I came to my senses, and slowed back down. I am, however, still amazed that my car got up to that speed with virtually no effort whatsoever. I guess that was part of I was trying to say this morning.

I did not post earlier to impress, or brag. Just blew off steam from a stressfull commute. I was still amped up, you could say, when I wrote my first post.

My reaction to being cut off, was stupid. No other way to describe it. Let us all learn a lesson from this. The joy I felt in what I did earlier today, would pale in comparison to the pain and saddness my family would feel, if I had hurt, or killed myself, or someone else.

It's 10:40 in NC. Been a long day. Looking forward to speaking with you guys again on hopefully, a better topic.

JB

cool vid with the bmw. My friend took his moms new 750Li out and asked me to race, I knew i had no chance... Surprisingly i was only beat by about 1/2 a car length!

also you guys need to remember that the TL is extremely strong on the top end. so if he was doing 80... could have totally left a maxima no problem, i do it quiet offten

I came into this thread ready to get into a big debate and call pimpin an idiot because from what i've seen in videos and in my experience against an 02 maxi on an empty highway, its a drivers race but... Alas, racing, in a straight line, with cars that aren't drag cars, proves nothing...

That being said, my Aunt does own an 07 maxima with the cvt transmission and i hate it, i hate how it feels, handles, drives.. everything. I think that has a lot to do with the annoying constant 5kish rpm gurgle of the VQ35 because of the stupid transmission... if you wanna argue engines...

The J Series engine is indeed less powerful than the VQ series however, it is also more efficient, smoother, and more refined. Take it how you will, both are solid engines, in solid luxury sedans. Drive safe and enjoy your commute in a nice car wether you have a TL or a Maxi

To be honest, all of the Maximas are horrible drivers. Not great HP, terrible at the track course, and a uncomfortable daily driver. I know I drove one for over 4k miles (09 and 06). You can read EVERY possible magazine and realize their cons are that its uncomfortable, terrible turning, etc...

Nonetheless, the 09 Maxima will beat a Stock TL in a straight line. Now a 09 Maxima vs a Type-S is a different story, could be close depending on tires, weather conditions, driver, etc... Why are we fighting about this anyways?

The TL is a better car regardless which one is faster. That was my 4th option when I bought my TL.
