Gumout Multi-System Tune-Up?
Gumout Multi-System Tune-Up?
Anyone tried Gumout Multi-System Tune-Up? Its Gumouts attempt at seafoam and AAP had it for free last month. I picked some up since it was free but now im a little nervous about using it. If anyone has used it can you post your results/experience with it.
So i went ahead and tried it. I put 5oz in the vacuum hose on top of the intake and it smoked a lot after i let it sit just like the seafoam does. Seems to be a little smoother idle and maybe a little more responsive but hard to tell since it wasn't running bad to begin with. I also put about 6oz in the Gas tank and will be putting 5oz in the oil tomorrow and drive it around for few miles then changing out the oil as its due.
unless you've never ever ever ever changed your oil. I can see how this may work.
Even then, removing all that built up gunk could lead to other problems down the road.
I'd stay away from that stuff.

I disagree. It's all preventative maintainence. IT certainly doesn't hurt anything running it through the car every once in a while. And granted it may not do too much, if there's just a little bit of stuff built up itll take care of the carbon build up before it can become a problem. I generally use Lucas fuel stabilizer/cleaner once every other month, and seafoam once every 50k in both my cars.

Notice anything different, you are probably right.. and there are millions of drivers that dont, and have no problems yes. Im can say though that 6 dollars every other month doesnt hurt my wallet to badly haha.
However, to say that seafoam does nothing is not true.

Im not disputing that. Your motor looks immaculate.
My only point was that it doesn't hurt anything to run a fuel injector cleaner thru it once in a while... it may not help, but it can't hurt.
Ill just leave it at that. :thumb up:

Redline SI-1 ftw.
I put it in from time to time because sometimes I can't get good gas from places like Chevron/Shell depending where I go. I have to fill up at like Sams/Costco/Valero at times when they're closer. Only thing I put in my car besides your typical stuff.
I did Seafoam once and my engine had a bent rod a day later. :X Coincidence maybe

^whut!?
you're an automatic! you cant bend rods unless it was over heated or you went through some water.
the only reason why I'm pulling my heads is because a friend over-revved my car.
some valves are bent.

Personally I dont believe in any of those fix it all in a can vehicle additives. Iv never seen them improve anything or fix an existing problem of any kind. No to say they dont work, maybe they do? Iv just never seen it.
I use them in all my cars, if something might help prevent a issue, or even just gives me piece of mind it is worth 10-20$ every other month for me. Heck in my 07 F250 Diesel I run Opti Lube additive in every tank of fuel and rev x oil additive in every oil change. Better be safe than sorry....Right?

I've used Seafoam a dozen times on various vehicles with no noticeable change in idle, power or gas mileage. It's possible that there was no problem to begin with but if I'm not seeing a difference I'm not going to spend the money.
Youre not going to see a difference cleaning an already clean motor lol. If you are keeping up on your maintainence, it is not going to show a drastic improvement.
Its like sweeping up an already mopped floor. Youre not going to get any dirt, but does that mean the broom is useless? No.
Im not trying to persuade anyone in any given direction. I use it primarily for ease of mind, and quite frankly I get them for a stupid cheap cost, so why not.. And like Ill say 1000 more times.. its not hurting anything!

These products work only when you are having trouble with your car, and in all honesty the TL doesn't have much engine trouble.
I'd recommend it only for the sheer fact that I know they work to help a bumpy idle, dirty fuel injector, etc from using it on troublesome cars and having them fixed after using it.
As another member put it, it's like moping your floor. There's only so much cleaning you can do. Using it Every oil change works for most folks and gives them piece of mind.

I dont see something big enough dislodging that would not be broken down by these fuel treatments. I mean things can happen, but I dont see this. Just like when the Mayan calendar ran out the world was to end, I did not see that happening either.
It works
I work at an auto parts store selling seafoam all the time. I've had a customer tell me he had a clogged catylitic converter that was throwing a check engine light. He put 2 cans in a quarter tank of gas and ran it through and it cleared his check engine light. He eventually had to change the converter though but he said the seafoam cleaned it enough to get another year out of it
