So, I rarely "street race" and when I do it's for a little fun. So today, this GTI that I see driving around my area all the time stops at a light on a main road and I pull up next to him.

I don't have anything planned, but we pull through the green light and I go to pass some one very gently and he takes off. At the next light we catch, we both step on it. I go up till about 65mph and then cut it off. He pulls an easy three cars on me. That's not why I'm mad though.

I end up following him half of my drive home. When he finally goes to turn, I'm giving him a nice and he leans towards his passenger side window that is down and begins to scream "FAG, FAGGOT" repeatedly. My blood begins to boil. I'm so heated by the time I get home I'd really like to put a bat in my trunk and go destroy his car.

Were you trying hard or was his car modded? With your mods if he was stock you should have beaten him. Anyway sounds like he was a piece of shit. I would have screamed back at his ass and told him to pull over if he had a problem, but that's just me. I have zero patience for jackass's like that.

gti definitely has a turbo. Those things are pretty quick. Oh and dont worry, he'll get whats comin to him.

 

Assuming the GTi you raced is the newer model, i think stock, with its dsg gearbox, the gti is as fast as TL-P, if not faster. And the 2.0T engine can be chipped and gain like 40hp easily. and then if he has some basic bolt-ons, he would definitely beat you. But wussup with that retard's attitude??

 

Even though their stock turbos are the size of yo-yo's, those 1.8T's can easily be made VERY quick. Just a chip can add 30+hp and 50+ lb/ft of tq. Add to that a larger front mount, intake, exhaust, light weight clutch, etc. and it'll fly. A big a$$ TL doesn't really stand a chance.
Do you know which model you raced? There are a lot of different possibilties all with different engine sizes. I bet you ran into a 1.8T. The 2.0T's w/ the ugly body shape are the most recent MK5's (2006+). But w/e, that dude had a serious attitude. Not surprising at all though. 90% of VW owners HATE Honda's with a passion. They will bash them any chance they get. This mostly stems from the ricer Civics I suppose. Take a venture over to VWVortex...

 

The MK4 GTI (the 1.8T models) are slower than a TL-p in the stock form. But the MK5 GTI's really move. My friends stock 2007 GTI 2.0T keeps up with my friends chipped and modded 2002 GTI 1.8T.

Jayun knows whats up, my car was posted over at vortex. Some people were very ignorant and said "that picture would be so better without that ugly honda," while some appreciated a different car.

 

I think I'll take a look at those boards. I appreciate you guys bringing that in to the light for me. Now that all has been said, do you think a pulley after I get it on will make enough of a difference?

Unfortunately, the TL is NOT a car for those that want relatively easy speed/power. Sure, you can make it decent and fun enough. But it's not going to be the ultimate street sleeper machine or w/e you want. (Unless you're willing to spend thousands on every bolt on possible, rebuild the engine, s/c, ago turbo w/ a built engine. With that money and the worth of the car, you can buy a whole different car)

And I wouldn't go trying to pick a fight just because some loser called you a fag while he was driving in the ultimate chick car... Be the bigger man and don't stoop to his level.

ive had mixed expiriences with GTis, ive beaten the modded regulars and anniversary editions with no issues. only lost to one GTi so far and he was modded and i only had an intake. never had the oppertunity to go up against an R32 yet.

 

this might be sort of off topic, but not just GTi's can be pretty fast, but be sure to watch out for some civics too. I've seen too many D16A + TD05 turbo civics making more than 400whp, yes wheel horsepower. Basically, just watch out for those little hatchbacks.

Their mufflers are tucked behind the bumper w/ just a little curved pipe barely visible. I kinda like that. Then again, if I spend $600+ on exhaust, I want to hear it as well as see part of it, lol.

My take on the fsi 2.0 (mkv gli,mkv gti,a4 and a couple other cars) is that they are really good for the low end, but they crap out on the top end. The stock turbo is very small (t03, i think), but it hits hard from 1700 rpms. It craps out early, though. The DSG tranny is really good, too. I have a friend with a 2006 gli. Same engine as gti for those that didnt know. Stock, it was a good peppy car, but got smoked by me (3rd gen 6sp) every scenario. Now its got neuspeed everything(chip,intake,exhaust,pulley,diverter valve mod?) I know cuz' i helped him install everything except the reflash), and in current form it beats my car out of the hole every time. It gains about 2 cars on me from the start. Even w/ a neck-to-neck start, when i shift 1-2, it jumps 2 cars on me. QM might even be close, cuz' its not till about 80-90 that I pass. Anything after that speed, time and time again, his car falls off. By 110, he's 3-5 cars behind, and by 140 he's 5-10 cars behind. He always jokes w/ me though, saying "I aint ever heard of the 'more than a quarter-mile' race". Thats why if we race, I make him follow me on to the freeway!

that's some very nice info! And I think what you said was right, as proven by its max torque is usually produced from ~1700rpm all the way to 5000rpm, but after that, the torque curve trails off. And also they are relatively light, and that would help them accelerate faster, but like you said, their lack of top end power means the TL will eventually pass it, assuming the GTi is not too heavily tuned.

 

i have bad road rage... so i would have tossed a grenade through his window. I keep those in my glove box from time to time for instances just like this.

For some reason ppl who never used Nitrous b4 always say Nitrous is bad for cars. I dont see how nitrous can be that bad. ITs how u use it and how u take care of it. I've been using Nitrous on almost all my cars and so far the way i do my setup everyone LOVES it. My next TL im getting which is soonnn I am going to do a 2 step nitrous. 100 and 125 shot. I am gonna post up vid of how to install it and how to customize a quick nitrous release valve just like BOV so that the motor wont detonate.. when u are spraying to much the release valve will let out all the excessive nitrous just so u wont take in to much nitrous..
