Smile Great gas mileage; (highway only)

Just drove 300 miles, to Ct. & back; mostly highway; (70-75 mph), A/C cranking!
Averaged almost 30MPG, on my '05 TL
Wish the city numbers were comparable
Anyway, for a car in that engine class, way to go TL!

I'm looking to take my TL to Charleston, S.C. ( from Tampa) this weekend. Hopefully, I'll get good gas mileage as well. Although, the wife and 1 yr old with all their shit is going to prolly hold me back some.

Highway only driving this weekend, made the 800 mile trip to and back from northern VA. I averaged 33mpg going both ways in my 07 Type S! Had a little bit of luggage and a set of golf clubs in the back too! I tell you, I'm not terribly impressed with the city mileage of this car but man it cruises on the highway!

^^ Lee, you are right my man...This car is not the best in the city but this car is a highway cruiser. I get 30-31 mpg all day long in the car. Gotta love the Honda

Same here. Average city mileage but great highway mileage. Not even trying I can get 28-29. With some careful driving I can hit 34-35. I have wider tires and over 100lbs of audio equipment.

I recently averaged 28mpg on a 1600 mile trip to FL and back. That includes it all, on ramps, gas stops, drive-throughs, and city like driving in our destination city. The 16-17 mpg I get during the week here at home blows, but the 33-35 I get on the highway MORE than makes up for it.

Oyster Bay, New York to Oriental NC...~600 miles each way. Averaged 29mpg cruising between 75 and 85 the whole time.

I get about 33mpg to and from work driving around 65...

Hit 43 mpg after drafting semi's all the way to and from work!!!!!!!!!!! as per the MID

The MPG depends on the way you drive. My last trip from Orlando, FL to Cashiers, NC I averaged 27 mpg going 95-100. In city (I drive with a pretty lead foot) I will get 22 mpg. Mixed Hwy/Cty driving normal I will get 28-30 mpg. I know if I babied the car and drove like a grandma I could easily get 30ish. The trick is to stay out of vtec, as that kills the mpg fast!

I'm amazed at the TL's highway mileage as well. With my '03 5AT 4 cyl. Accord, the best I could get was 30-31.

with the price of a gallon of gas there are alot of folks who can appreciate 30+ mpg on the highway.

He said he drafted for that 40+mpg... I just got a nice 31mpg average on a weekend trip down the NJ and PA Turnpikes. Not bad for a car loaded down with 3 people, luggage, gifts and an engine that's barely broken in (2.5k miles on the odo.)

Can't wait to try that trip after I switch over to 0w20.

Yup, all you have to do is avoid WOT and you can get it in 30mpgs easy. I drive 50/50 (hwy/city) and I get 26, road trips churn about 30~33.

Recently drove Denver - El Paso - Denver (1400 miles total). Approx. 34 MPG w/cruise control set to 78 MPH and with 4 people in the car, A/C running, and a trunk full of luggage.

Not exactly. Ya got the behind the truck part right though.

Did the drafting thing for just over 20 miles...had to get off the freeway then.

Just don't try it when theres the slightest amount of debris on the road.

I got 33+ over a 350 mile trip - ~60-80mph, no cruise control, lots of it coming downhill through the mountains or crusing flat.

Typically I can average 28 on the highway with some light stop and go traffic and about 5 miles of city driving on a 40 mile one way trip. Once I decide to put the rage pedal down though it quickly drops towards 25.

Can't control the weather, but temperature makes a difference:
  • 28 m/g highway in the Winter

both with cruise in a stock 07 TL-S, 6MT, a small amount of luggage, & one overweight driver.

Anyone know if there's a way to make Canadian TLs display the fuel economy in mpg rather than liters per 100 kms?

Either refer to your MID or:

    1) Fill up your tank completely
    2) Reset your odometer
    3) Drive for a while
    4) Fill up with gas again, noting how many gallons you put in
    5) Divide miles driven by # of gallons you had to put in to fill it again

We recently took a 1000 mile family trip with the TL instead of the van. Got 30mpg vs 21. That's a 30% reduction in fuel used. We used every inch of the trunk but it worked. The less money we send to the middle east the better.

I've been able to get 35mpg on a recent roadtrip to Austin. I bumped into 36mpg but we had to stop to relieve some pressure.

Does the type of gas (premium v mid grade v regular) affect mpg? Has anyone taken that into consideration?

Yes, the higher octane, the better the mpg.

There is a reason the national speed limit was 55 years ago. It was known back then that mileage is MUCH improved going that slow, or to say it the other way, gas mileage decreases greatly above 60mph. I can rock 37-38 mpg all day if I'm cruising on the interstate at 65. I got a little worried I was gonna run out once when I was at 512 miles on one tank, especially since the MID said I was 0 miles to empty. Got to a station and it still barely took 14 gallons.

It appears that everyone flys at 75+ and then whines about crappy mileage. There's a reason people....

Most of what you're seeing is winter gas vs summer gas.

That MPG is only for 60 something miles and one hours worth of straight driving, if you really want to get a good estimate then do as the others are doing i.e. calculate MPGs over one tank of gas rather than one short trip .

My tank has to go through almost one weeks driving and the average comes out to be 26mpgs at 30~35 MPH, thats great considering I do a lot of stop and go traffic and 50% city.
