Got Rear Ended

The title explains itself, I got rear ended and it made my bumper pop out of the top part. Her license plate holder scrathed the heck out of my bumper and put 2 holes in it from where the screws held her plate in place. Sicne she is 100% at fault, her insurance company will be paying for all charges including my rental. I thought it would be a pain in the ass trying to get another insurance company to pay up. Suprisingly her ins. co. was very helpful in helping me out. My biggest worry is that, would they put bondle on my bumper and repaint it? or would they replace the whole bumper? Sorry I know its hard to say without pics but unfortunetely I never had luck posting pics on here.

On a funny note: When she got out of her car she said "Did somebody hit you before to have those big of scratches?"

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

They'll replace it for sure. It would be faster and cheaper to replace the entire bumper cover than to sand, bondo, sand, primer, and repaint a bumper that's already pocked and damaged from license plate screws. If they're saying that they're just going to repaint it instead of replace it, just forget her insurance company and go through your own. Your insurance company will subrogate for the cost of the repairs and you will not have to pay your deductible.

The insurance company should pay to have the whole bumper replaced. I don't think you will have a problem with them, but also insist on original equipment parts, and make sure you find a good body shop to get the work done.

When I contacted my insurance co. They said that i have 2 ways of taking care of the problem. 1- File a claim on my insurance and pay for the deductable, 2- Contact her insurance co. because she is at fault and they would cover it all. But if that is another option for me than defintely. I would not want the bumper fixed.
Also, should I have Acura do the work or go to a body shop? and should I have Acura check out the back end of the car to make sure nothing else has been damaged?

Any reputable body shop will be able to tell you if there is any other damage behind the bumper. I would guess that only a body shop will work on this and that acura will not... but that is from my experience wiht my dealer - some dealers may do body work, I am not sure.

THe price that would be asked of you for a new bumper is much higher then how much the dealer can get it for. I would be willing to bet they pay somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 bucks.

If it was just the bumper, I highly doubt it'll significantly affect its value. Just make sure OEM parts are used and the paint matches. Sorry to hear this happened, though. Hope the repair goes well.

you can go through your insurance and hers. you pay the deductible for your insurance right now and your insurance pats for the rest. then your insurance send her insurance a bill to pay for the full amount since it is 100 percent her fault. then your insurance co will give you back your deductible in a few weeks. doube check your policy with your insurance company. have both insurance companys work it out amongst themselves

I went through something similar with my other car, as well as a related story with our 05' TL.

My pontiac got rear-ended (on my birthday no less), and it was similar damage. Two holes, scuffs, etc. I took it to the dealer's body shop. They said there are two ways to fix it. New bumper, or bondo. They said a bondo repair wouldn't look right, especially since my car was black, so he wrote the estimate to have a new bumper. I just faxed all the stuff to the other insurance company, and they cut me a check within the week.

On my wife's TL... Some moron made an illegal U-turn (wasn't even an intersection, they just busted a U in the middle of the street), and hit the driver's side rear door of our TL. My wife swerved out of the way as much as she could to minimize the damage, but they still hit her. The damage doesn't look too bad, it's just a single dent near the bottom of the door.

The other insurance company wanted to send a claim adjuster over to look at it. I knew they would try to rip us off, so before the adjuster came, I took the car to the Acura Body Shop. I did that, because I figured the other insurance would try to force us to go for paintless dent-repair. I didn't want to settle for that, because I had that done on my other car, and they drill a hole on the side of your door, to create an access hole to do the repair. That is a totally unacceptable repair when taking responsibility for the damage. (Especially since I'm pretty sure that drilling the side of the door will void the Acura Corrosion Warranty).

My experience with paintless dent repairs, has been that you should only use them on actual door dings. When I used them for a small dent, the repair just didn't look right, even though the dent was gone.

Anyways, I took the car to the dealer, and they looked at the damage, and wrote an estimate for something like $1200 or something like that. I called the other insurance company, and told them I already got an estimate. They told me to fax it to them, so I did. They said they were just going to cut me a check, instead of sending over their adjuster.

No offense to any insurance adjusters out there, but here is my story about why I despise them. (At least Liberty Mutual's adjusters)

Several years ago, my dad filed a comprehensive claim with them, for an accident that was ice-related.

When I visited my dad, I saw his car, and I asked him when he's getting it fixed. He said, it was already fixed

The hood didn't line up, such that you had to shake it side to side to get it to close properly. The chrome moldings were missing, and the door was severely scratched. And the chrome rocker panel on the door was cracked.

I took the car back to the body shop. They said their hands were tied, because the work order from the insurance company was very explicit. Use USED parts, and do not paint the door, and do not replace the moldings. They said there wasn't even close to being enough money in the work order to do a proper repair. They even complained that it took them a long time to locate the door in a junk yard back east.

This is how Liberty fixes their customer's cars?! This is why I despise adjusters.

FWIW, I heard recently that I should've just had the body shop do the repairs correctly the first time out. And anything that wasn't included in the original work order, would be submitted separately. They said I have the legal right to do this, because there is always the probability that they will discover damage that wasn't known when the "adjustment" was made.

Just want to follow up. The car is in the shop for a new bumper, I called up Acura and asked them which body shop do they use and I took it there since they work with them. Est. cost is $600.81. Other party Insurance Co is paying for all of it including my rental (Mazda 3)
