Got my VIS Hood, Why am I not excited???

I was in a minor accident a few weeks ago and dinged up my front bumper and hood. So I figured, now is as good of a time as ever to pull the trigger on a VIS carbon fiber hood! Only problem is when I installed it onto my car I was not thrilled with the fitment! It sits flush on the top and bottom (where it meets the grille) of the hood, but the sides are almost 1/4 to maybe even 1/2 inch higer than the side quarter panels! It is almost like the hood was sitting too long and warped, if thats even possible (which I doubt). I bought the hood brand new and it does have the VIS logo sticker underneath so it is a legit VIS hood.

My question goes out to anyone with a VIS hood, does anyone else have an issue with this hood sitting flush? Or is this just my luck, and im the only one with a "warped" hood? Any help would be appreciated!!

Pictures will come tomorrow when I get my camera out...

Contact them and send it back .. I wouldn't even mess with it.

People are going to notice your hood more than a stock one thus also picking out the flaws in it.

Why would he get a restocking charge for an inferior product?

Thats where these outfits have you by the short ones .. sell you a piece of crap then want you to pay return shipping even to get a replacement.

In the OPs original thread it was brought to his attention that the seller advised up front that, and I quote from his other thread

"All parts must be prepped and installed by a professional body shop that has experience working with fiberglass car parts including
but not limited to cutting, filling, sanding, and shaving."

Yep, there ya go. You're more then likely going to have to shim and shave in order to get the flush fit you're seeking. Such was the case with a ViS hood I installed on a buddy's 300zx

Thanks guys for all of the responses, sorry I let this thread go a couple of days but I've been out of town for business. I am going to get a couple pictures up later on today once I grab my camera (or settle for my iPhone). I havent contacted them back yet, plan on putting a call out later today.

Thanks for the heads up, but if you scrolled down to the 5th post on there, I took your advice and didnt go with the ebay hood.

Much appreciated!!! Will stay away from ebay on this one just for the piece of mind. I probably am going to end up ordering through www.xcarbonfiber.com

Thanks again for the quick responses!

Dude, i've seen this before and a lot of CF hoods fit like 90% then you have to do some adjustments. What you might have to do is mark off exactly where the hood is too high and grab a dremel start trimming the bottom of the hood, which might help it sit more flush. Also sometimes the outer plastic panels along the inside of the engine might be pushing the hood up so mess with those as well. You should get it to fit better with some tweaking...

I'm going to surmise that the gaps are due to the hood support struts pushing up against the hood and misshaping it.

Have you tried disconnecting the hood support struts and then closing the hood?

Well thats more than a little tweeking ... thats horrible .. your not going to adjust that down. You also have alignment issues with your front bumper/headlight/front pass. side front fender.

The fender/hood seam should line up with the line of the headlight and its off.

Yikes man...that is definitely NOT supposed to fit like that. Call and see about returning that joker....send them these pics if you have to. That is uncharacteristic of VIS quality.

Ive not been impressed with ViS products lately. I ordered both a hood and a trunk and the trunk is completely warped. The hood didnt fit perfectly, but it wasnt as bad as yours. What annoys me is that Im not the only person with a warped trunk, someone else has one and its warped exactly the same as mine. It seems as though ViS' QC has been lacking lately.

i actually had the same problem, just not quite as bad as yours. i also had it done at a body shop and they said they had to mess with it a lot and this was as good as they could get it. it sticks up more on the driver side

i second trying to tweak the hood struts. theres definitely a lot of pressure pushing against the hood and it might fix the problem. ive just been too lazy to do it and convince myself that the gap i have is okay because it feeds cool air to my short tam intake(which i LOVE)

Holy shit dude that looks horrible - sorry. You definitely need to call ViS ASAP and get that shit straightened out (No pun intended ). I have no experience with ViS, but I had a Seibon CF hood on my previous car and the fitment was damn near perfect.

That fitment is inexcusable.

OP - You are not alone with shitty fitment from ViS. My hood wasnt as bad as yours. At first it didnt close at all, so I had to trim some material near the grill. The sides stick up alittle bit, even without the dampers on.

But, the trunk is the absolute worst part:

The trunk is twisted so badly it wont even shut, and theres another member on the CL side that has the exact same issues. This whole transaction left a bad taste in my mouth, and that was after 2 months of arguing with them to send me a new hood because the first one had shit embedded in the clear coat.

Im back to the stock pieces, which sucks because I love the CF but I refuse to put such shoddy parts on my car.

I guess the point I'll make is if you bought a stock hood/trunk and they fit like that you sure wouldn't accept it. Problem is it said right in the web page that it wouldn't fit right .. and they were right .. it didn't.

That hood is going to be the focal point of your car and it will look like crap.

Did you have it installed by a licensed body shop? Either way your hooped because reading thier warranty info they have so many outs you don't stand a chance.

Even if you had it installed by a licensed shop they are going to say they were inept and not cover you .
