Unhappy Got hit n run while parked

A few nights ago I went bowling and when I came back out my car got hit in the rear. Nothing too bad; at least there are no dents.

Should I report this to my insurance (State Farm) since my car was stationary? What are the ups and downs to this?

Any advice on how to get most of this stuff off? There is no hope for the places where the paint is gone, except touch-up paint I guess. TIA I appreciate all the help.

even as much as it is hard to hear, you should consider yourself lucky. it could have been much worse...

but, i'm sure that doesn't assuage the anguish of having your car violated. go to several paint shops and get estimates on what they would charge to re-spray your bumper (and your rear quarter panels to insure a good match with the pearl).

good luck!

Too bad they couldn't just respray over those scratches, instead the whole bumper needs to be resprayed. That'll cost 200 bucks.

Call your insurance agent and ask...........can't hurt to explore the options. They can't increase your premium for asking.....

FYI Aspec rear would cover most of that up in case you were thinking about it.

Sorry to see this happen - it always hurts to see a TL in pain

lol, what kind of beach looks like that? Anyways it doesnt look too bad, just some paint damage which shouldnt cost you more than a couple hundred dollars. I love how people just hit other peoples cars and just drive away, no respect for other peoples belongings!

Hey..it happened to me recently only they didn't run...the old lady came looking for me. You're lucky...it's only the bumper....the old fart hit my door...much harder to repair and repaint.

Hey thanks for all the help and input... I really appreciate it!

Yeah I am lucky that it is not worse.

SteveP66 - I am actually thinking about saving up money for an aspec kit, and the aspec rear is the whole bumper am I correct? So it the whole bumper would be replaced?

TIA

You'll be responsible for your deductible, but it shouldn't be recorded as a "chargeable" loss.

Yeah everytime I look at the rear I just shake my head

But yeah I'm thinking about touching up the area with the pen that you are describing. I read somewhere on here that Acura has these pens and that they were available on H and A accessories.. but I couldn't find them. Any suggestions on where I can find these pens in SSM?

TIA

Sorry to hear. Just to commiserate - I had a similar incident happen to me last Wednesday (driver's side, rear bumper), and I'm pretty sure it was a co-worker. But mine's a '99, so she's lived a pretty good, damage free life to this point.

Almost - It's a lower lip that goes on just at the body line in the bumper..........so it would cover up most of your scrapes but not all of it.

Kinda like this....

I'd cover up as much as you can with the aspec lip and then touch up the top part. Chances are the bumper will get tagged again. I'd leave it.

Thanks subinf. Yeah this is probably the best solution in terms of cost and benefits.

Nice ride Steve! The car looks so much better with an aspec kit compared to stock. Planning on getting coilovers or wheels? Or both?

Its hard to say by pics but I do believe it can be repaired without replacing the bummper cover. I am an State Farm certified shop (good isurance company by the way) if State farm come out to do the apprasial of the repair it will be lower priced (with the expectation that you are not going to repair it) but if you take it to a shop that writes for state farm it will be higher, then you can tell the insurance you are just going to take the check. Your looking at about $500 to $1000 repair (at a state farm shop) if the bummper cover is not replaced. So it depends on your deductible. But if you want to run with the check to get the highest appraisal you need to go to one of there shops to get an estimate (and just because you go there doesnt mean you have to get it fixed)

Just to let you guys know in some cases there are variances... we have a MDX right now that by the VIN (the 11th # in the VIN determines where it was painted) it was painted in Ontario. We do this because there is a plant in Alabama that it could have been painted at, one plant has different tint than the other (silver vers. blue) So the paint code just gives you a starting point. It doesnt tell you the plant it was painted at. Just FYI

I believe my deductible is $500. The a-spec kit is for $800 from Tim. I don't think I am going to report anything to State Farm and maybe get the a-spec later on and touch up the mark thats showing. Would you go with this route or would you have it fixed?

Well.... you are owed the money to do the repair weither or not you do it. Lets say the repair is $1000 you will get a check for $500 (minus deductable) so its up to you. I do understand a new bummper will probley repair all the damage, and one less claim will keep your rates lower. If you tend to have high rates I might not make the claim. If you have low rates I would make the claim, hell thats why you pay all that money for, but thats just me. It could very eaisly go either way. Good luck however you go!

Time and time again I tell people that insurance paid over time has to pay off sometime... In my case I've paid on time for 2 years... I totalled one car and a pebble hit my TL-S windshield full glass comes in handy... and I had gap coverage for the totalled car so I actually got money back from it since I had an extended warranty...

the insurance money the way I look at it is a return for you paying out your pockets
