Going on a road trip from MN to Yellowstone, WY Q's inside

My mid is showing 50% oil left, I have 59,000miles on the odometer, haven't done anything with my brakes or transmission fluid etc. My driving habits are spirited, but it's 70-80% HWY with 10mins of daily stop and go traffic in a 35-40min drive home.

General questions:
  1. Should I change my oil?
  2. Check my brake pads, how many mm's should I be looking for?
  3. Should I tape my bumper area with painters tape to protect the front?

Total trip mileage is around 2,300 miles.

1. Oil, it can wait.
2. I wanna say not less then 3mm on the pads
3. Up to you....... I've seen it on the highway.

1. I always change oil before a major road trip, but that's personal preference.
2. ^^^ 3mm minimum on the pads.
3. Depends on what your bumper looks like now. If you already have a bunch of chips then don't worry about it. Even then you're *probably* safe. I usually see more rock chips in the spring when the roads are littered with sand and rocks.

Have a good trip, man! It's beautiful country out there.

Service limit is 1.6mm (from 2004 service manual).

Purchase bear spray and bells if you're doing any hiking in YS. Have fun!!

1.6mm is the limit when you should change it immediately. For a 2,300 mile journey you'll want a minimum of double that. Especially through the mountains.

I wouldnt worry about the oil if your still at 50 percent you should be good for 2k miles. Brake pads, take a look at them if they arent squeeling and dont look thin dont worry about them. Tape is a good idea as it definitely protects the front and I do it for long drives. If your at 59k have you changed your tranny fluid yet? I would recommend you change it before the trip

Agreed with the advice.

If you come through on US 26, give a shout out coming through Riverton.

I've also heard spraying a non-stick cooking spray on the front will help in removing bugs Maybe you could invest in some clear vinyl from a local vinyl shop to put on the front bumper? Just stay back from other cars ass and don't worry Have an awesome trip!

RE: Transmission fluid, I went to the dealership on my last oil change and they said it just started turning colors, I'm not sure if that means it's time to change or if I have more time?

acura recommends changing the fluid at 60k which a lot of people say is way too much. most people change it sooner around 30k. you are at 59k so with 2k miles trip you will be over the 60k. If it were my car I would def do it before you head out. A full 3x3 change with redline d4 atf.
