Go to ACURA,COM, select TL, then 'Build & Price''. 6 Orderable trim Levels X 20 Exterior/Interior Color combinations = 120 (DUH!). HPT tires ARE a factory option on 6MTs and account for 2 of those 6. Just because they offer better tires doesn't you have to order them from the factory. As for NAV, who said anything about DIO?

Dude, Negative Rep points and a lame ass come back? Are you 12?

Anyway, my point (that went right over your head) was Acura wouldnt have so many different sub models if they made some of the stuff a Dealer Installed option instead of a Factory Installed option. Thus a single car could satisfy 4 different sub models (in 6MT, 2 models in 5AT) with less than a day of work at the dealership, instead of having to produce 4 different types of car at the factory and pray none of them will sit on the lot for months.

You also misread my post by the looks of your ARE statement. I know All Season Tires and Summer (HPT) Tires ARE a factory option. Thats what I said previously.

6 as you so wonderfully stated different cars could be cut down to 2 if they did the NAVI and Tires at the Dealership. 2 x 20 = 40 cars instead of 120. Now I dont have an MBA, but that seems alot easier to deal with.

Back in June when I ordered the car, we agreed on $33,167. I highly doubt that I could get the body kit thrown on. Not ever sure if I like the body kit, never saw one in person.

FYI: I just got off the phone with my Sales Mgr and he said my car is showing a Build Period of 8/24 to 8/28. He said as long as they dont slip that date it should be showing as "In Transit" Monday or so.

So all of us waiting for an ABP, Give your dealer a call Monday afternoon sometime.

Well, I am happy to say that my car has been built and is in shipping process. Should be here on Monday or Tuesday. Such a long wait and I know my dealer was getting sick of me calling.

I am very anxious to drive it. Just in time for me to go on my road trip I am taking up to Boston. I hope the car lives up to my expectations. I am guessing all you other guys who have the ABP on order should be getting your cars soon as well since I think they build by color.

(Phew!) Excellent to hear that the wait is almost over. I think you're a case of "the squeaky wheel gets the oil". Calling the dealer usually works...

Our build date was promised at 8/23 - 8/25 and on 8/25 we received a VIN in the 70 thousands. We are told in 10 days our car will be in Florida for us to pick up - now we have to find a home for our 01 TL until October when the lease is up.

Glad your car is finally on the way.

Wow............glad to hear you ABP buyers are finally going to start receiving your cars. Fortunately I went for one of less popular colours RRP. Was told it would be about a month's wait.......received it in about 5 days (they brought it in from another dealer in the neighbouring province).
While I feel badly for those of you who have had to wait.........it's kind of nice to know that this car continues to be in good demand.
Personally..............I would threatened to pull my order unless they were prepared to throw in a goodie or two.

Well I had them throw in at the deal the all weather mats, the custom car cover, and mud flaps. Not sure how much more I could have squeezed out of them.

Also, the ABP is not a popular color if you look on the color chart.

The only way I could come up with my combination (6MT, Navi, RR and Parchment) was to order it. I knew going in that it was going to take several months. Frankly, it was worth it to me to get exactly what I wanted. Plus, I was assured of a TL that had never been abused in test drive(s). I could never figure out why so many people seem to take delight in abusing a car during a test drive. Its not like it's the dealer that is one who is going to suffer. Instead, it is the person buying the car with 20-30 miles no knowing that someone had already blown every break-in period rule for the vehicle. Sorry about the rant....just one of my pet peeves.

"order" and "custom order" are 2 different things. was it just the dealer did not have you combo available and dealer could not locate it, or was your "order" a true factory one-off??

i found with Toyota, their website said i could get (or not get) any of the available options, but when i went to the dealer it turned out to not be the case. i could not get a Tacoma SR5(chrome) with rear diff locker and without the rear sliding window. that's what i wanted, those were all options, i could not get it.

so i'm just wondering what type of order was really made.

cheers

Order was a true factory order. In December, I sat with the salesman as he logged onto Acura's production scheduling system/website, verified the dealeship's allocation for a Feb build with the combination I wanted, and watched him place the order. The salesman I was dealing with happened to be responsible for the order book for the whole dealership so he obviously undestood the process and didn't mind explaining it to me.

Now there might have been the exact model I was looking for somewhere out there but it certainly wasn't within 100 miles. I wasn't in a huge rush (needed time to work a private sale for my 93 SHO since the dealer wasn't interested in an 11 year old Ford with 150K, go figure ). Lastly, I really didn't want to fool with trying to bring in a TL from two states over only to find out it had 50 miles of test drives on the odometer and a gold pin stripe.
