Smile getting my car back today..

so after a blown motor im getting my car back today with a new motor. the guy called me and told me my cars ready and i ask him how many mile should i wait untill i push the car and he told me you dont need to do that with new cars. is this true? because i was told by the people here to brake it in. also im thinking of going from 93 octane to 91 think thats a bad idea? i drive alot and the more octane the more gas im going to waste..

you really should break it in. I think the recommendation is 600 miles no wot and hard acceleration. 91 is the best gas a pump offers here in so cal. I can't image that will hurt the car.

Yeah I'd give it a break in period of 1k miles give or take. If you can, try to rock in and out of the throttle as much as you can to allow the piston rings to seat correctly. If it was me, I probably wouldn't push it past 4000 rpms.

If the car is designed to run on 91, wouldn't you think it would run normal?

Mileage depends on how hard you drive the car, higher octane gasoline just burns cleaner.

This is what I usually do when I break in a new motor... anything from a race motor to stock motor (unless the manufacturer says to do otherwise). Start with any kind of dino oil, doesn't matter how cheap. Run it for about 250-500 miles. Change the oil again with the same type of oil. Change it again at 1000 and again at 1500 miles. At 1500 miles I switch to full synthetic good stuff. Here's the reasoning:
1) There may be some metal shavings or residual metal particles in the engine from the build. It's good to clean that stuff out of there with the cheap oil.
2) Dino oil, I've been told by reputable engine builders and mechanics, is good to start an engine off with because it typically provides a little more resistance and wear than synthetic oil. A little wear at first is good for the piston rings so that they seat properly. After they've seated in, you make the switch to synthetic which is more slippery, allows less wear, and will allow your engine to perform well.

FYI, as you live in NY, most gas stations don't have 91 octane fuel, its 87, 89 and 93 normally... I think Shell might have different grades.

stay away from sunoco in jersey... only shell in jersey brother man... shell might be 2 or 3 cents more on the side of the route or interstate but you know what... my baby runs like the wind... 93 octane only... the couple cents you save are a bottle of soda anyway...

or better yet... is the same price as 4 or 5 platanos per fill up... hehehe.... I'd say baby her till after your first oil change... take it easy on the highway lol... highway 1 is hot out this summer
