Getting miles driven data from onboard computer
Getting miles driven data from onboard computer
Does anyone know if this can be done? More specifically, I'd like to get some history of the mileage driven. I know that insurance companies can get data off of some computer system in most cars in order to prove fault, but I don't know how much history they can get. Can the Acura service center get at any data? I need this to prove that the body shop put 200 miles on my car while I had it in for repair (over a 3 1/2 week period). Thanks.
I don't think our 04TL has such kind of detailed "black box" yet. I only can imagine our ECU could record some error codes.
I guess...
If you insist Acura or the insurance firms could pull out the data, maybe there would be only seconds of car information due to its limited memory. For example, if Acura does install any secret recording device, the simple technology could make this car easily saves about a few seconds' driving record. The record would not fully stored unless the car hits hard or triggers the SRS or overpass the threshold of ECU... which means the device only saves a few seconds' evidence before the accident happens.... :o

I guess it's too late for this advice to help you this time around, but in general this is why it is always very important to have the service writer or body shop person (or whoever is taking your car for any kind of service or repair) write the mileage on the ticket and you confirm that the mileage is correct.
