Ok, maybe I just don't know how "reserve" fuel works. The owners manual says this car has a 17.something gallon fuel tank and once the light comes on, there is supposedly 1.4 or something gallons left (+ reserve). I look at my range and have about 25 miles estimated remaining when the light comes on.. When I fill up, it gives me around 13 gallons. Where are the other 4 gallons? Is the reserve fuel hoarding that much and is it advisable to run it?

Expanding on this topic. What real world average mpg are you all seeing? (please note standard or automatic transmission and year)

for everyone:
Fuel tank capacity 17.something
Low Level light comes on with approx 3 gallons remaining, may vary with newer years.
Of that, 2.something is `useable fuel`that can be picked up by the pump-
thats about 40-50 miles after the light- certainly you can find a gas station in that distance- is the theory

It critical that you NEVER ever run out of gas in the TL- massive headaches

So when the light comes on- you should need about 14 gallons
Make sure you only fill to the first auto click-off of the pump and
the gas cap gets put back on with 3 clicks heard- no less- or you get a check engine light

 

No problem. The Search feature can be a PITA sometimes. Really helps if you've got a good idea of the terms that'll turn up the "right" results.
