Gas Mileage
#2
You should be getting at least 25-26 on the highway unless you are in the hills of Virginia (nearby, eh?) or really trashing it. I get 23 around town and up to 28 on the highway. Is this manually computed by you or are you looking at the trip computer display?
If you are really getting this low mileage, a trip to the service manager seems in order.

I get 19-22 miles per gallon, but I drive my car fairly hard. Most of my driving is done in the city. well living on an island theres not much highway that i get a chance to open my TL on, but I still managed to put on 5500 miles on my TL.

Did you reset your trip computer....?
What highway did you drive?

I travel between Baltimore - Dulles VA and Washington DC almost everyday.
I reset the trip computer everytime I get gas. I hardly hit traffic because I'm always going opposite of the flow. Goto Dulles @ night; DC to work and Baltimore midday for classes. I'll have the car on cruise control on 95N/S @ around 70-80MPH and the trip computer reads 18. I normally chill @ 70 MPH on the Dulles Toll Rd. I can't explain the gas guzzling. I've filled up this car sooo many times it is getting annoying.

When you fill up, do you manually compute the gas mileage by dividing the gallons used into the total miles driven?

Are you talking about your 2004TL or your 99 Volvo C70 black. I only ask because you still have the Volvo in your profile and no mention of a TL. If it is the 04 TL, is it manual or automatic transmission?

My first 4000 miles, I averaged 27MPG calculated. Trip computer matched this fairly close. (6MT mostly highway, only about 20% "city") I did notice in heavy stop and go, that I ran around 18 to 22. (from trip computer) Highway rates are very speed sensitive. Full tank runs at 65 to 70 are 32-34, while similar runs at 75-85 are around 27.

This is really low for what you describe. Any soot on your tail pipes? I would get Acura to check it out. Could be emission control related, bad injector. They may have to pull the plugs and look at their condition if you are burning that rich. Also check out your intake.
Hope you get a solution.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm taking the car to the dealer today to inspect and hopefully relace my old 42s. I'll ask him about the mileage then.

I am only going by the trip computer, I have avg'd 17, mosty stop and go, very little highway. No soot on pipes. I filled up on saturday, and now have a 1/4 tank left.
P.S. Pug I was in Madison on Sunday. Went to Garlic Rose on Main st. Ever go there?

I have a thought on how to get a better idea of what kind of mileage other people are getting - post all of your Trip Computer info. Yes, saying that you drive all city or highway or that your mix is about 30/70 is nice, but the other info on the MID would be more helpful.
The last time I filled up my tank, the Trip Computer was something like:
Ave MPG: 19
Ave MPH: 32
Total Miles: 260
Total Time: 8:00
Most of my driving ends up being worse than city driving since a lot of it is stop and go on the highway. This weekend will be my first chance to put on true highway miles for a full tank and I will post the results of that trip.
Edit: This is in a 5AT, btw.

My TL has 6600 miles. I record mileage and gas for every tank. My last four tanks averaged 25.7 MPG using premium gas (92 octane), balanced highway and city driving. Previous four tanks with regular gas (87 octane) averaged 23.8 MPG. Premium gives 8% better gas mileage with 10% additional cost ($2.20 vs $2.00/gallon). That's a good trade.

Car is less than a week old and with only 128 miles on the odometer, I'm already down just below ½ a tank.
It better get better.
This is the kind of mileage I got from my '63 Riviera with its 325HP V8 and 2 speed automatic (R.I.P.).

Ok, I'm at 3.1k miles and I am averaging 22 MPG highway in my TL. It still is not great but at least it is going up. I can't wait to visit the service manager to see if there is anything I can do to improve this cars poor performance.

I reset my computer at 1,700 miles and it showed 23 mpg average, mostly short trips around town. Went on a short trip 2 weeks ago, 130 miles one-way, and it showed 32 mpg. About half of this distance the speed limits was 65-70 mph, most of the rest was 55 mph, with some stops.

At 360 miles, first fill up was 17 mpg. Almost ready to refill tank, and trip puter says 19mpg. This is all city mileage. If I get 20 mpg in city driving and around 30 on the road at 70 mph, I'm a happy camper. What kind of gas mileage did you think a high performance automatic car would get ? I admit to just noodling along, breaking this car in easy.

Others have posted about MPG improving at about 4500 miles. I hit that this past week, and sure enough my MPG improved. I went from consistently getting 26 MPG to now consistently getting 29MPG (mostly highway), sometimes 30 or 31.
I also discovered that the highest MPG reading on the MID is "> 50 MPG". I got that by reseting and then coasting down a hill on the GSP at 60MPH. I'm happy about getting to 29MPG on a V6.

My car is at about 2500 and I got my best gas mileage of about 27 PMG this past weekend on a 500 mile (round) trip. This was with four adults in the car, trunk pretty much full, air condition running the whole time and lots of elevation change (from sea level to over 5000' with hills and back). Before this, I had been averaging around 19-20 MPG with lots of stop and go traffic (on the freeway). Hopefully it continues to get better with time.
